But I looked away in disgust. The sight of Vernon made me recall what he did with Peggy in the hotel room on our sixth anniversary. The scene became clearer as it replayed in my mind.
Vernon had kissed Peggy not long ago. Yet he was telling me that I was the woman he loved. I was truly amused.
I couldn’t even be bothered to look at Vernon, who hadn’t shaved in days. He looked so unkempt, and he could never compare to Dylan.
I held onto Dylan’s arm as we made our way around Vernon. However, the latter ran toward me and grabbed my wrist.
Page by page, Vernon handed me Peggy’s medical report and said, “Peggy never had bone cancer. She lied to us. “If I knew from the start, I never would’ve gotten engaged with her! Avril, I beg you. Just take a look at these papers! I’m really not lying!”
Dylan noticed Vernon’s bloodshot eyes, and his tearful expression as he pleaded with me. Afraid that I might be moved, Dylan quickly yanked Vernon’s hand off my wrist.
“Vernon, please be more mindful of your behavior. It’d be better if you could give up on getting back with my fiancée!”
After that, I also tossed the worthless papers Vernon had shoved into my hands onto the floor. So what if Peggy had faked her illness? That had nothing to do with me.
All I knew was Vernon had done things to hurt me. I wasn’t about to let things slide just because Peggy faked her illness. There was no way I could act as if nothing had happened and take him back.
Vernon’s wishful thinking would only be fantasy. He watched as Peggy’s medical report was scattered onto the floor.
After noticing Dylan’s jealous expression, I gradually grew closer to him. I stepped all over the papers on the floor and did not even look back at Vernon.
Back then, when Vernon tossed my resignation letter and files toward my face, he probably never imagined that he would be begging me tearfully to forgive him.
But I could never turn back time, and I would never forgive Vernon. Since hating him would be a waste of my energy, the best thing I could do was consider him a stranger,
However, Vernon refused to give up. He got up from the floor and swung his fist toward Dylan. “You were the one
causing trouble for us! You wanted to steal Avril from me!”
To protect me, Dylan let go of my hand and let Vernon shove him to the floor.
I quickly yelled for security at the shop. Since it was a private high–end shop, any customer who placed their orders here was extremely wealthy. The security had the responsibility to protect the customers.
The security guards quickly subdued Vernon. He was immediately pinned to the ground.
But I didn’t even look back at him. I rushed to Dylan’s side and helped him up, feeling sorry for him.
As the security held Vernon against the floor, he finally understood that I would never love him again. He had lost the young woman whose world used to revolve around him.
As for me, I had Dylan, who belonged to me and would love me with all his heart.
