Chapter 3
LEONARDO DE LUCA
-one year ago-
I’ve had a lot of deals in my life but this deal with the Guzman family was a little interesting because never have I been offered a woman as payment for protection. Not just any woman, the daughter,
I wasn’t that intrigued with the deal because I have no problem getting a pick of any woman I want.
With a chain of companies in my name and Boss to the most ruthless mafia gang, the deal almost sounded ridiculous.
But that was until he showed me a picture of the girl.
Dark brown eyes stared intently at me even through the phone, with brown hair so long, I could almost feel myself running my hands through its silky length.
She was without a doubt, incredibly beautiful, with a childlike innocence about her that seemed to draw me in.
I looked up at the eager father sitting opposite me in my home office.
He had run into quite some depth and needed protection that only the De Luca syndicate could provide.
“How old is she?”
Twenty–three.” He replied nervously.
I pretended to ponder for a few minutes even though I knew I had already made my decision. My pride and ego would not let a beauty like that slip off my fingers.
It’s about time I start producing heirs too anyway.
“Alright. Prepare a meeting and rest assured, your family will now be under De Luca’s protection.”
“Oh! Thank you!” Giovanni Guzman replied excitedly as he stood up, half running towards the door and almost tripping in his excitement.
That weekend, I drove my Mercedes–Benz S–class to the Guzman household, clearly intending to impress.
But as soon as I got out of the vehicle, I realized something was wrong with the way the three men standing in front of me were fidgeting. They looked visibly shaken.
“Mr De Luca,” Giovanni said as he offered his hand for a handshake. I ignored him.
“Where’s she?”
I’ve always been one that goes straight to the point. I hated unnecessary formalities.
“Ermm- you see- it’s just… The one called Anthonio stammered as he tried in vain to answer the question.
“Can. Someone. Tell. Me. What. The. Fuck. Is. Going.

On?” I said through gritted teeth, already about to lose my cool and we all know that wouldn’t turn out nice.
“She’s gone.” The one called Russo said, more calmly.
“What do you mean she’s gone?”
20%
But the look on their faces told me everything I needed to know. I chuckled harshly as I reached for my gun tucked in my waistband. I relished the look of horror on all their faces.
“Giovanni” I called out in a very soft voice, twirling my gun around him. “You think you can make a mockery out of
Leonardo De Luca?”
“No, I swear-”
“Shut the fuck up!” I screamed, cutting him off and he immediately dropped to his knees, his two sons following suit.
“We promise we’re going to get her back and straight to you,” Russo said.
Honestly, I admired him. He didn’t seem to show any fear unlike Anthonio and their father Giovanni. I’m sure he went on his knees just out of respect for his father. His jaw was set tightly and he stared me straight in the eye.
I immediately knew I wanted someone like that in my gang. Better than to leave empty–handed. I thought.
“You,” I said, flicking my gun towards Russo. “are coming with me instead.”
“But-” He immediately shut his mouth as I gave him a deadly stare. I pointed my gun at Giovanni again.
“You can come get your son when you find me.”
With that said, I walked off towards my car with Russo following closely behind me.
Just before getting to the car, I tossed the car keys at Russo. “Drive.”
The look of excitement that crossed his face made it seem like I had just given him his best Christmas gift as he hurriedly got in the driver’s seat.
-present day-
I have had the busiest days of my life this past week and getting home, all I wanted to do was relax and be left alone in peace but those brown eyes kept hunting me and I can barely keep my shit together.
She was the last person I’d ever thought to accidentally stumble upon. I mean, what are the odds?
It was obvious she didn’t know who I was as I couldn’t detect any hint of recognition on her face.
Just thinking of those luscious lips as they slightly parted in a mixture of shock and fear brought heat down to my loins. Why the fuck did I even let her go?
I wasn’t that soft and I was not about to start now.
And just like I came in, I headed back out the door straight to my car.
“Capo!”

Russo ran towards me wondering why I was leaving just as soon as we came in but I waved him off.
I wasn’t about to let him know that I had found his sister just yet. Alessia Guzman

“Shit,” I muttered under my breath, staring at the broken glass and liquid that lay shattered all over my kitchen floor. I had placed it down on the counter, not realizing how close it was to the edge. I sighed heavily, walking out of the kitchen, clearly not in the mood to clean it up.
The last two hours had rattled me, filling me with an unreasonable amount of paranoia and the fact that I lived alone did absolutely nothing to ease my worries.
It was no wonder I had already consumed a full bottle of wine and was in the process of finishing another.
I couldn’t sleep. The man with the gun was on my mind constantly, his face flashing before me every time I closed my eyes. What if he followed me home? I wouldn’t put it past someone like him.
What if he was waiting for me to show any signs of vulnerability so that he could kill me and dispose of my body just like he did the man at the alley?
I was scaring myself and I shook my head at my thoughts.
He had the perfect opportunity to do whatever he wanted so I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t have let me go if he wanted to kill
- me.
Just then, a knock came on my door and I jumped in fear. Nobody I knew knocked anymore. They either sent a text or called to let me know they were coming. My boyfriend, Enzo, was out of town, so that wouldn’t be him.
Then, the handle started to turn and I remembered that I hadn’t bolted my door. My eyes widened as the adrenaline kicked in and I rushed forward to push it shut. But whoever was behind the door, was a lot stronger than me.
