Chapter 8
get you anything else?” I asked, plastering my best customer service smile on my face.
“Just the bill, please.” The boy with curly blond hair mumbled, not even bothering to look up at me.
I nodded. The smile on my face disappeared as I walked away from him. Some customers can be rude!
I’m honestly beginning to hate my job. I wiped my palms on my apron and proceeded to ring up the customer’s bill.
“You have a lovely day,” I said to the young guy as he walked out of the diner, noticing that he had tipped me generously.
Okay, maybe I don’t hate my job as much. He seemed like a high school kid who decided to have a late lunch at the diner.
Two hours later, my shift had finally ended.
“Oh, fuck, yes!” I breathed when the clock struck 6 pm.
I was so eager to see Enzo and to know what his surprise for me was. Isa shot me a dirty look. All I could do was offer her a sheepish smile.
Her shift doesn’t end for another hour so I get that she’s cranky.
She rolled her eyes, shooing me away. “Go on, get home. Make sure you tell me all about your date and the surprise later girl.”
I was quick to untie my apron and collect my things. “Of course! Thanks, girl. See you tomorrow.”
“Hey!” Isa called out just as I was about leaving and I turned around to look at her.
“Take the bus.”
You bet!

I finished my hair and makeup and moved on to pick out what to wear. I opted for a sexy black gown I got as a gift from
Enzo.
The material was crafted from luxurious satin, adorned with delicate lace and a graceful off–the–shoulder neckline.
I remember how sneaky he looked when I asked him how he could afford such a luxurious gown but I decided to wear it
anyway.
I walked out of my apartment, making sure to grab my coat and lock the doors before stepping into the Uber ride I had
ordered.
“Hey babe.” Enzo stood from where he had been sitting at a booth at the corner of the restaurant, giving me a big hug and a plain peck on the lips.
The guilt I felt came rushing back in.

“Sit down, I have something to ask you.”
I sit down, preparing myself for what he has to say.
“We’ve been dating for some time now, Alessia.” He says and I nod slowly.
Does he happen to know I cheated on him?
I was beginning to get scared as I fiddled my fingers nervously under the table.
Just then, my attention draws to a familiar figure sitting a few tables away. It doesn’t take a lot to recognize a guy like him. His green eyes pierce right into my soul.
He’s wearing black jeans with a white unbuttoned shirt, short–sleeved this time that reveals the tattoos covering his body as well as a leather jacket hanging over his shoulder.
I gulp.
“What the hell is he doing here? This has got to be another coincidence right?”
“Right?!
There’s no way-
“Alessia? Did you hear what I said?”
Shit.
“What? Sorry, could you repeat that?” I look away from the stranger nervously, moving my eyes to Enzo.
“I asked if you wanted to move in with me. We’ve been dating for a while now, so it’s only normal.” He runs a hand through his hair, looking a bit annoyed.
My eyes widened.
Woah. That’s not what I was expecting. However, moving in with him means finally getting away from the insecurity and paranoia I feel in my apartment.
A smile slowly formed on my lips as I contemplated that it’d be in my best interests to move in with him.
“I- yes. Yes, of course, I will, Enzo.” I grab his hand, squeezing it.
“Hi, I’m Sabrina and I’ll be your server for the night. What can I get for you?”
The server smiles and winks sneakily at Enzo thinking I wouldn’t notice. The last thing I expected him to do was check out her body and smile back.
I cleared my throat and opened the menu. Enzo flinched, doing the same. Enzo ordered a pasta and I ordered one too.
The food comes and I had completely forgotten about the man who sat a few tables down. However, when I looked for him this time, he was gone.
God! This man creeps me the fuck out!
When we finish, I kiss Enzo goodbye and he tells me to pack my things so I can move in with him by the weekend.

Chapter 8
When I finally got home, I spotted a strange white Range Rover parked at the side of the road.
Weird. No one in this apartment complex owned a car like that.
I proceeded to walk up the stairs and into the lobby. Reaching my apartment, I slowed down apprehensively when I saw that the door was slightly ajar.
I was pretty sure I locked the door before leaving.
But deep down, I knew who was in my apartment. Feeling more annoyed than scared, I groaned out loud as I stepped in. He needed to stop invading my privacy like this!
Unsurprisingly, he was sitting comfortably on my couch when I walked in. He had an expression that was starting to become all too familiar. He had taken it upon himself to get comfortable, even pouring himself a glass of water and sipping on it casually.
“Have you been trailing me? You were at the restaurant and now you’re in my apartment. Do you think this is normal? I don’t even freaking know who y-”
“My name’s Leonardo De Luca. There. Ring a bell?” He said cheekily, bending down to look at my picture frames on the shelf. Leonardo.
How could I ever forget that name?
I swallowed hard as I silently watched him.
No no no! This can’t be happening!
“Leonardo-” I whispered, still very much flabbergasted.
“Alessia.” He nodded his head, almost as if he was acknowledging me for the first time.
“D–di-“I cleared my throat. “Did you know who I was that day on the alley?”
Leonardo looked at me and then as if realizing how truly vulnerable I was, he sighed.
“I’m not here to hurt you. I just want to talk.” He said as if it was the most normal thing in the world.
“Get the fuck out,” I said through gritted teeth. My voice was monotonous, void of any emotion.
How could I be so stupid?
“What?” He seemed genuinely shocked.
“Get the fuck out of my apartment you monster!”
I screamed, already on the verge of tears. I couldn’t even wait for his reaction as I ran towards the bathroom, refusing to break down in front of him.
I heard the front door click shut and I stayed in the bathroom for a few minutes more before stepping out.
Just then, I spot a black box with a red ribbon around it on the coffee table. This wasn’t there when I came in. I cautiously picked up the box and examined the letter attached.
No man takes a girl out on a date and leaves her to get to her home herself. You’ll need one of these so you don’t have to take the bus or walk home again.

I quickly opened the box and gasped.
The box is filled with mesh.
And a brand new car key lay in the middle of it. What the fuck?!
