I looked at Shayden’s outstretched hand and shook my head firmly.
“I won’t walk toward you anymore.”
His face instantly turned cold.
My hand was quietly taken by someone, fingers entwined.
Kenton bent down to smooth out the creases on my skirt, his fingers rubbing at the fabric, growing increasingly annoyed at the stains.
“When we get back, I’ll throw this skirt away and make you a new one.”
“No, that’s not it…”

He wrapped his arms around me from behind, his voice neither too loud nor too
soft, just the right volume for everyone in the room to hear.
“From now on, every piece of clothing my sister–in–law wears, I’ll make myself.”
“Sister–in–law has great taste and a perfect figure, she looks good in any color, unlike some people…”
Kenton’s eyes flicked over to Feryal and Shayden, sneering.
“Even white, the easiest color to wear, looks awful on them. Don’t they feel embarrassed walking around like this?”
A low laugh spread through the crowd, and eyes subtly turned toward two specific

people.
“Now that I take a good look, Feryal’s white dress is indeed too plain, with just one brooch as an accessory. Tsk, tsk…”
“Look at her sister’s black diamonds, I can’t even count them.”
“But is this Kenton really from Nightfall? I don’t think I’ve seen his photo in any fashion. magazines.”
“I don’t know if it’s him, but look at how close Feryal’s holding his arm–this isn’t just friendly, it screams mistress, right?”
“Hey, did you hear that noise outside? It sounds like a lot of reporters are coming…”
When I heard the reporters, I nervously glanced at Kenton.

“We’ll go out the back door…”
“Go out the back door?” Kenton poked my forehead, his gaze unreadable.
“Tell me the truth. Deep down, you still think I’m a liar, right?”
He took my hand, intending to lead me toward the ballroom door, but then he suddenly stopped, retracing his steps.
“Sister–in–law, how about we play a little game with that couple?”
“You hold my hand, and we run toward the back door.”
I didn’t understand what Kenton was planning, but my feet instinctively followed his instructions.

A deep, protective instinct stirred within me.
When I first met Kenton, he was always bullied by the Holmes family’s relatives and their children.
I used to hold his hand and run away many
times.
“They ran!”
Feryal was the first to spot Kenton and me, her voice no longer gentle and soft, but shrill, as if she wanted the whole world to hear.
“Quick, open the main door and let the reporters in! There’s a fraud here pretending to be Nightfall!”
The door swung open, and reporters flooded into the ballroom like a swarm of bees.

I grabbed the handle, but the doorwassas locked.d.
“Kenton, the door.”
“Sister–in–law! I’m so scared Whbthebell locked the door? I’m not going to endapop in jail, am I?“?”
Kenton pretended to be terrified, his bodycy shaking as he exaggerated the fearran
But the glint of mischief in his eyes didn’t escape mee
I played along, struggling to keep a straightaht face.

“Y–yeah, I’m scared too. Don’t worry, I also lied about my dress being from Nightfall. I’ll go to the police station with you. Don’t be afraid.”
Maybe my acting was too poor.
Kenton buried his head in my shoulder, suppressing laughter with great difficulty.
Feryal, walking in with the reporters, saw Kenton’s trembling shoulders and mistook it for fear.
A victorious smile spread across her face.
“Sister, since you knew the lie would be exposed, why keep lying shamelessly?”
She had always looked down on Kenton, often bullying him when they were younger.

“Reporters, he’s claiming to be the designer Nightfall. Be sure to interview him thoroughly.”
A barrage of microphones was shoved in front of Kenton and me.
My palms began to sweat.
