Damon had often told Leis it wasn’t necessary to come every time, but she always showed up with her warm smile to support him.
This unwavering dedication from Leia had always touched Damon, which is why he went to such lengths to protect her.
But this time, things were different.
Before he left, he had criticized Harley, someone Leia liked. His words had been harsh, and when he departed, Leia didn’t even bother to see him off. It was only after others, including Noelle, cheered him on that Leis reluctantly added her own half–hearted encouragement
The incident left a bitter taste in Damon’s mouth.
During his training sessions, he purposely avoided calling or texting Leia, hoping to see when she might reach out first.
But now, on the day of his race, Leia hadn’t even sent him a single message, let alone appeared in person.
Damon kept telling himself Leia was busy with university life and military training. She couldn’t be as attentive as before. But surely her phone wasn’t completely off–limits 24 hours a day.

He turned to Noelle, who remained quiet. Though his tone softened slightly, his words were no less cutting. “Why aren’t you saying anything! Are you pretending to be a saint so Mom will feel sorry for you?”
“Huh!” Noelle tied her head, confused. “Why would I pretend to be a saint? I am a good person.”
Damon was speechless.
He had no idea how to respond to someone as unbothered as Noelle.
“Where’s Leia!” Damon demanded. “Why isn’t she here? What did you do to her!”
