Chapter 9
Mate!
He as my mate?t
Damien is my mate, but that ca
can’t be right. I try to convince myself, yet a lingering question nags at me. Why can’t it be possible? Lucian isn’t my mate, and I haven’t found mine yet, so there’s nothing stopping Damien from being the one. But of all people–why him!
He is Lucian’s biggest rival. The Crimson Shadow pack is the only pack that can go head to head with the Moonfang pack, and since they are the largest and most influential parks in the world, there is often animosity between them.
And there it is another thing, that faint voice in my head from before I passed out. I want to believe it was my wolf speaking, but I don’t have a wolf. So why am I hearing things! Have I gone crazy!
My thoughts are interrupted when suddenly my chin is lifted, and I inhale a shaky breath when I notice that Damien and 1 are closer than before. 1 can feel has hot breath on me, and his piercing gray eyes on mine. His eyes are cold, with no emotion beneath them, but his teasing smile makes me a bit frightened
This man is dangerous, perhaps more dangerous than Lucian.
“You don’t have a wolf,” he says, his voice barely a whisper, more a statement than a question. I swallow hard, his finger grazing my skin, sending a searing heat through me. I want to pull away, but his grip tightens around my waist, holding me in place.
We stand there for what feels like a while, just staring at each other, and then, like a wake–up call, I blink our of the daze and place my shaky handa on his chest to try to pull away.
“Let me go” I finally manage to say, my eyes narrowing into a glare. “What do you think you’re doing? What gives you the right to hold me like
1 say through clenched teeth, and his smirk widens in amusement. “Ain’t you a feisty one, he teases, Before I can realize what’s happening, he lifts. me in a bridal carry, causing me to yell out and struggle to get away. But he’s strong, and he doesn’t even budge.
“Let me down,” I demand, attempting to move my leg, but the sharp pain sends me gasping, and all I can manage is a soft whimper. Damien lowers me gently onto the bed, then steps back, crowing his arms with a casual case. A smirk tugs at the corners of his lips, his gaze never leaving me.
“You know,” he drawls, almost lazily, his Enger stroking his chin as he stares at me. I saved you yesterday, and I thought you’d show some gratitude. I mean, I was thinking maybe you’d get down on your knees, thank me for saving your life, and vow your eternal love and admiration for me. Especially since, you know, you’re my mute. Or, if that’s ton mush, a simple thank you‘ would’ve sufficed. But no. Instead, here we are.” He chuckles ” waving his bloody hand at me like he’s showing off a trophy
I take my gaze away from his hand and nervously swallow, realizing I must have been ungrateful. He saved me yesterday when I was caught by Elijah, but I don’t intend to stay here or he anyone’s mate. I how my head slightly in gratitude. “Thank you for saving me, Alpha Damien. Please pardon my disrespect. I am simply disoriented right now.”
I speak, and he chuckles dryly once more, pushing away from the door before slowly closing the distance between us. “Forget all that for now,” he says, his voice low and controlled. “But I need to know who you are, and what your relationship with Lucian is”
The moment his name reaches my ears, I freeze. Lucian–the very name I now loathe with every biber of my being, I will never forget, never forgive him. Not only did he betray me, but he also took my child from me. My anger burns so deep but all I do is look at Damien, my gaze empty and cold
Damien inches closer to me, his steps light and he pauses, before crouching in front of me, resting his head on his hands as he smiles. “I have to know if you’re a spy or not, and I also need to know why his beta said you were a criminal if you intend to stay here. I am sure there is a juicy story behind everything”
Tlean hack and shake my head. “Tam nothing to Alpha Lucian, and I am not a spy either. I do not intend to stay here, but thank you for helping me” I don’t bother to mention that I am not a criminal, that I’ve been framed, because no one will believe me. To everyone. I’m just a jealous woman who poisoned her sister to get back the title of Luna.
“I will leave now” I bow my head and stand up from the bed, limping toward the door. I don’t have a destination in mind, but I want to leave: L don’t want to stay in this pack, especially with the connection it has to Lucian–and especially with my mate being Damien. I still can’t wrap my head around it, but I know one thing for sure: I do not want to get close to anyone again
Before I can get far, my hand is yanked, and i slam into a chest so hard it could be a wall. I rub my forehead, then raise my head, glaring at the amused man who now wears a bright smile.
His gray eyes bore into me, and I forget how to breathe. His eyes–they’re mesmerizing, too mesmerizing that they draw me like a siren’s call,

trapping me in their depth.
“Where do you think you’re going, little mate?” He leans closer to my ear, and I feel his lips brush my skin, making me inhale sharply. My breath
1 catches in my throat.
“W–what?” I try to pull away but he only smirks, head tilting to the side.
“I don’t think you’re nothing to Larian. Because if that’s true, then why the hell is be at my borders!” His words hit me like a bolt of lightning, and my eyes widen in shock.
Lucian is here!!
