“Are you not coming to the dinner with us? Holly booked the best hotel, and after the meal, there’s a hot spring, a bar, a spa
-plenty of activities to enjoy,” I said, smiling as I walked up to Sheila.
Sheila hesitated, clearly unsure whether she could say whatever was on her mind in front of everyone.
I pretended not to notice, keeping my smile light and casual.
Unable to hold back any longer, Sheila spoke up, “It’s not that… I actually have something personal I’d like to discuss with you. Sylvia. Do you think we could go somewhere a bit quieter?”
Holly laughed. “Oh, Sylvia, just go with her. It’s not like you’re the one asking for a private chat–she’s the one who requested it. No need to worry, we’ve all got our eyes on you.”
Her playful remark made the staff around us burst into laughter.
But Sheila didn’t seem to find it funny. She forced a weak smile and looked at me with a hopeful expression.
1 said, “Alright, let’s not waste everyone’s time. We’ll talk, and then join the dinner.”
Once we were in the corner, Sheila asked, “Sylvia, when you came to the hospital last time… did you bring me a gift?”
“No, I didn’t. I didn’t even know it was you who got hurt until I got to the hospital. How could I have prepared anything in advance?” I replied, half–joking.
I continued, “I thought it was Manuela who got into trouble. If I had known it was you, I would’ve brought you some things to help you recover faster.”
“Really didn’t bring anything?” Sheila still seemed unsure.
I raised an eyebrow. “Should I have brought something? Or… are you upset because I didn’t bring a gift?”
“No, no!” She quickly waved her hands, denying it. “That’s not it at all, Sylvia. I just found something, and I’m not sure who left it behind, so I wanted to ask you about it.”
“Oh, someone lost something? If it’s valuable, you should report it to the police. I didn’t lose anything.” I said casually.
“As long as it’s not yours, that’s all that matters,” she said, laughing nervously. “Then, Sylvia… why did you exclude me from some of the core parts of this project? Did 1 do something wrong?”
At that question, a cold laugh flickered in my mind. As expected, she was sharp.
I’d quietly sidelined her. She probably hadn’t noticed at first, but over time, she would. Just like this collaboration with Holly’s team.
In the past, I would have trusted Sheila with more important! anyone else could handle.
Now… I only gave her the leftover work–things that
Sheila seemed uneasy. She didn’t understand why I had changed my approach.
I smiled gently. “Of course not. Why would you think that? You just got injured, right? Over twenty stitches, if I’m not mistaken.
“As your direct supervisor, and considering the person who hurt you is somewhat connected to me, I can’t possibly let you

take on too much work. That would make me a pretty terrible boss, wouldn’t it?”
Sheila sighed in relief and quickly reassured me. Tm fine, Sylvia, really”
“Don’t worry,” I said, my face showing concern. “They say it takes a hundred days for bones to fully heal.

“It’s not that serious, but you’ve had so many stitches in your face. That must hurt a lot. Have you talked to a doctor? What
they say? Will there be scars?
“You’re so young and not even married yet. You can’t afford to ruin your looks.
