Chapter 10
I looked up to see Natalie standing over me, looking down with a critical gaze.
Tamara quickly responded with a pitiful expression. “Natalie, don’t blame Charlene. I did this voluntarily.”
I glanced around and noticed that everyone in the office was looking at me in a strange way.
As if I really had been bullying Tamara
Setting down my documents, I shot Tamara a look, “What’s with the passive–aggressive act? You volunteered to buy me food, and now you’re acting like I made you do so. Are you trying to make others think I’m bullying you?”
Tamara’s face turned pale, and her tears began to fall instantly. “I didn’t, Charlene. It’s not what you think.”
Seeing this, Natalie immediately jumped to Tamara’s defense. “She was just explaining things, and you’re accusing her of being passive–aggressive? Charlene, when did you become so mean?”
I didn’t get angry. Instead, I smirked. “And you must be the epitome of kindness, huh! Accusing someone without knowing the full story”
I emphasized the words epitome of kindness deliberately, mocking her outright.
Sure enough. Natalie’s face darkened immediately. I curved my lips into a smile and continued, “By the way, haven’t you also been making the new hires run errands for you Lately! So does that mean you’re bullying them?”
“Charlene! What did you just say?!” Natalie snapped, her glare sharp with fury. “Talking back to a superior–are you trying to throw away your performance bomis?
I raised an eyebrow. “Do you think, between the two of us, the company values you more, or me?”
The moment I said that, Natalie’s hands trembled with anger. She let out a cold scoff and huffed. “Charlene, I’m generous enough to not hold this against you.”
With that, she turned on her heels and walked away–but n
no matter how I looked at it, her retreat seemed more like she was fleeing in defeat After Natalie left, Tamara stole a caurious glance at me and murmured softly, “Charlene, please just take it.”
Only then did I remember her presence. I’m not hungry
Tamara immediately put on a sad look. “You don’t like this sandwich? The cafeteria is closed at this hour, and I could only get this for you.”
Feeling utterly exasperated, I noticed some of my colleagues about to chime in on her behalf. To shut her up, I simply placed the food on my desk, hoping she would drop it.
But Tamara was determined to make me eat. She twisted open the bottle of peanut milk and said in a gentle voice, “Charlene, you should eat while it’s still warm. If it gets cold, it will make your stomach hurt”
With that, she even reached out and nudged the food closer to me.
I wasn’t sure if the used too m much force or if it was just bad luck, but the peanut milk bottle upped over, spilling all across my desk–soaking my documents completely.
Before I could even react, Tamara let out
out a loud gasp, her voice echoing through the office.
Natalie ruched over, and the moment she saw the scene, she lashed out at me. “Charlene, are you out of your mind Why are you taking it out on
