Chapter 27

Tamara was sobbing uncontrollably, her shoulders shaking with every breath. Tears streamed down her face as if she had suffered a great injustice, but her eyes were filled with resentment.
Wiping her tears, she said, “Charlene, I just wanted to apologize to you properly. If you won’t accept it, that’s fine, but saying all that is really too
much!”
With that, she turned and ran out.
Stella paused for a moment, then quickly followed after her.
I didn’t bother with them, instead sweeping my gaze over the office. “Get back to work.”
I turned my attention to the computer, feeling slightly irritated.
Tamara’s expression earlier made it clear she was holding a grudge against me. With her personality, I was sure there would be more trouble from her in the future.
I really didn’t understand how Harlan could have such poor taste. How could he treat such a woman like a princess?
I was right. Not even two hours later, the trouble arrived.
Harlan’s call came directly to my phone.
I answered, and he immediately asked, furious, “What did you say to Tamara?”
I frowned. “What? Are you trying to defend her?”
“Charlene, do you have any idea that because of what you said, Tamara got into a car accident?” he shouted.
I was immediately taken aback. A car accident?
I was about to ask for more details when Harlan’s cold voice came through. “I’ve sent the location to your phone. Hurry up and come here. Otherwise, you know the consequences.”
Before I could respond, the call ended abruptly.
The consequences he referred to were probably a demotion and a pay cut.
But unfortunately, he had hit my weak spot.
I looked at the location he had sent–it was at the same hospital as last time. The hospital was far from the company, and since I couldn’t drive, I had no choice but to take a taxi.
I got into the car, still thinking about what Harlan had said,
Tamara got into a car accident?
Because of me?
Could it be that my words drove her to such an extreme?
I didn’t believe she was that fragile.
Lost in thought, I arrived at the hospital, carefully sitting in the wheelchair and slowly making my way toward the patient’s room.
I glanced at my phone to confirm the details and was about to head toward the room when I suddenly saw a slightly overweight man hurriedly running toward me.
I was startled and instinctively called out to stop him, “Careful-”
Before I could finish my sentence, he crashed into my wheelchair with such force that it tipped over.
My head hit the ground hard, and everything around me spun.
I could hear people gasping in shock.
By the time I regained my senses, a figure in a white coat had appeared in front of me. When I focused, I realized it was Harlan’s father’s illegitimate son–the doctor I had mistaken for Lucas.
He looked at me with concern, his brows and eyes making me feel momentarily dazed.

“Are you okay?” he asked.
I shook my head. He helped me back into the wheelchair, his expression complicated, as if he was struggling with whether to say something to me.
I looked around, but the man who had knocked me over was nowhere to be seen.
Frowning, I thanked the doctor behind me.
He snapped out of his thoughts and asked, “Where are you going? I’ll take you there.”
“Third floor, Room 307,” I replied.
That was Tamara’s room number.
I clearly felt his steps falter for a brief moment after I said that, and then he asked, “You… and Harlan, really aren’t a couple?”
I honestly shook my head. He immediately seemed to breathe a sigh of relief. “Then, can I pursue you?”
