Despite Emma sending messages for several days, whether in private chats or mentioning me in group chats, I didn’t reply.
She indeed couldn’t hold back anymore.
When I shared a photo on my social media saying I was attending a conference in City A, she quickly followed.
When she “accidentally” ran into me by the lake, she pretended to be surprised, “Lily, what are you doing here?”
“I posted it on my social media, didn’t you see?”
“Oh my, I’ve been so busy, you have no idea. Recently, Jack’s project has been keeping me run off my feet. He even said he wants to give me some shares. By the way, Jack is coming over tonight. Did he tell you? Shall we have dinner together?”
“No need, I’m quite busy. Maybe another time.”
My repeated withdrawal seemed to hit Emma’s sweet spot. She believed I must care about Jack more than any of my previous boyfriends, after all, Jack was indeed the best I could possibly get.

She spared no effort in flaunting her presence with Jack in front of me.
The conference lasted for three days, and she ran around the venue with Jack for all three days, during which we bumped into each other several times.
Jack seemed surprised to see me there. He wanted to come talk to me, but Emma always pulled him away.
Shortly after, he sent me a message explaining,
“I’m on a business trip with cousin Emma, I forgot to tell you.”
“This project is almost done. When we get back, I’ll make it up to you and explain everything properly.”
I didn’t reply, mainly because I was a bit disgusted with him.
If he had just honestly admitted it, I might have thought better of him.
On the last day of the conference, I saw a crowd gathering by the lake, so I decided to take a walk along the shore.
By chance, I caught Jack and Emma kissing behind a statue.
I turned to run away and bumped into someone familiar.
It was my ex–cousin–in–law, David.
He squinted his eyes, looking at the kissing couple for a while, then turned to me and asked, “Is that your boyfriend? Don’t you want to go say
hello?”
I quickly shook my head, “No, I don’t want to look like a shrew.”
I started walking back, with David walking on my right.
I asked him, “Why didn’t you go over just now?”
“We’re divorced, so we each live our own lives. I don’t really want to get involved in her business.”
“I see. It doesn’t look like you two want to get back together anyway.”
David had been making headlines in the entertainment news these past two years, with supermodels and actresses. He never seemed to
settle down.
“Oh, by the way, Emma said she now has shares in the business she’s doing with my boyfriend. Remember to keep an eye on it for her. If she loses money, it’s all on you.”
David was taken aback, “She invested? How much did she invest?”
“I’m not sure, I didn’t ask about the details. But my boyfriend seems to have invested quite a bit. It must be at least tens of millions. But you probably don’t care, you’re rich anyway.”
I looked up at David sincerely and said, “I envy Emma. It seems like no matter what, there’s always someone who loves her. Even after divorce. Next to her, I’m like an ugly duckling, ugly and insecure.”
