Chapter 26
Through Layla had suggested the idea, she knew full well it was just a way to avoid taking responsibility. After all, Julian had been very clear-
sa, even though she knew that Samuel’s frail body couldn’t handle the effects of the cardiac stimulant–and that one shot would essentially seal his
-the will went ahead with the decision
At this moment, Julian stood silently, has brow furrowed, his cold, emotionless gaze giving nothing away. There wasn’t a hint of thought or feeling in his eyes.
Isis sneered, “If you don’t have anything useful to add, then keep your opinions to yourself.”
Layla froze, feeling the sting of his’s forceful attitude.
Robert had overheard Isis’s words. The accusation that Layla was “killing Samuel made his heart skip a brat.
That was dangerous territory–if Julian believed it, both St. Stephen Hospital and his position as director could be in serious jeopardy.
Without wasting a moment, Robert darkened his face, and he turned to Layla with a stern expression. “Dr. Wilson, apologize to this young lady. You’re being completely unreasonabler
He wanted to put an end to this quickly, before it escalated any further.
But Layla, still in shock, shot back, “Why should I apologize?”
Robert was left speechless. He thought, Layla’s emotional intelligence is practically nonexistent Doesn’t she realize Lam trying to protect her! Her stubbornness has almost cost Samuel his life, and yet Julian hasn’t even brought it up. Why can’t she just let it go?
Robert couldn’t handle this–he was completely out of his depth..
Isis looked at Layla with open disdain. “As a doctor, you hold your patient’s life in your hands. Saving lives is your duty, not playing fast and loose with them. But you’re treating life as if it’s disposable, and you don’t even recognize the problem with that.”
“You you… Layla trembled with rage, her face flushed with anger ‘How dare you accuse me like this? My decision was backed by the hospital, and even Dr. Campbell agreed!”
Robert’s eyes went wide. “What‘ Nonsense! When did I ever agree to that?” He thought, Is she trying to drag me down with her?
Layla realized the couldn’t admit to anything–absolutely not so she stubbornly held her ground. “Don’t slander me! My approach was the best way to save Samuel!”
Isis spoke calmly. “Whether it was right or wrong you know the truth in your heart.”
Her composed, unruffled tone stood in sharp p contrast to Layla’s frantic, desperate behavior.
The stark difference between the two left Adrian feeling uneasy. This was nothing like what he had imagined.
He had expected Isis, a mere housewife, to be overshadowed by the successful Layla But now it was Layla who was visibly flustered, while Isis remained unerly calm and collected. Something felt off. He thought. This isn’t right!
“It’s too noisy” Julian’s voice suddenly cut through the tension, cold and sharp. He hadn’t spoken a word until now, but those words were enough to bring total silence to the room
His brow furrowed deeper, his voice as frigid as ice. “Thirty seconds. Get rid of this noisy crow.”
“Yes, sir!”
With that, Layla was quickly and ruthlessly dragged away.
She stood frozen in shock, her eyes wide in disbelief. She thought, A crow? Is he referring to me?”
Robert’s heart skipped a beat. He thought, “Am I next? Would I be the next to disappear?
But Julian didn’t even glance at him. Instead, he turned directly to Isis, his voice softer than before. “Go change first. I’ll go with you”
His paused for a moment. His words sounded strange. It was their first meeting, yet the way he spoke made it seem as though they were old friends
But then she realized they hadn’t yet discussed her treatment fee for Samuel. He definitely couldn’t leave just yet.

Tuurslided, and the two
wo of them walked out, one ahead, the other following
As they passed a nervous Robert, Julian’s cold voice rang out. “St. Stephen Hospital isn’t what it used to be”
Those few words made Roben freeze in place, his heart pounding.
When Michael came out of his office, he saw Robert standing there, pale and stummed.
Thinking about the events outside the operating room. Micharl called Robert into his office
He asked. “That Layla—she’s the exceptional doctor you recruited, right?”
Robert was taken aback. He thought, Michael hasn’t been involved in hospital affairs for years. Why is he suddenly asking about personnel?”
After all, although Michael was the highest authority at Sans Cary Hospital, he was a very low–profile figure. He cared primarily about treating patients, while hospital management and external relations were handled by the executive vice director–his job
Robert answered honestly, “Yes, she just returned from studying abroad. During her time overseas, she achieved exceptional results. You could say she’s extremely capable.”
“Oh?” Michael’s interest seemed piqued. “Tell me more. What makes her so outstanding!”
Robert thought that Michael might be genuinely interested. After all, Layla was a rare talent, and they had worked hard to bring her in
With confidence, Robert replied, “She specializes in Stream Cut techniques. Apart from you, she’s the only one in the hospital who can perform this procedure, which is why we were so eager to bring her on
“We were planning for her to do a six–month internship before promoting her directly to head of cardiothoracic surgery”
Michael didn’t seem overly interested in the rest of the details, but when he heard about Layla’s expertise with the Stream Cut, his interest clearly sharpened. “Is she really skilled with the Stream Cur
Michael himself had never claimed to be a master of the technique. In fact, only one person had truly mastered it–but unfortunately, that person was no longer around. However, today, Michael had discovered someone else who could be called an expert: Isis,
Robert nodded firmly. “Yes, absolutely. We even have records from other hospitals where she’s performed surgeries using the technique.”
Michael believed him and asked. “Do you know who she learned it from?”
The Stream Cur technique wasn’t something that could be picked up from textbooks. It had to be taught hands–on, and very few doctors had mastered it. Michael himself had learned it from someone years ago.
For years, he had been looking for someone who could learn it and carry on the tradition. But it was difficult. The technique required certain innate qualities, and most doctors just didn’t have the physical capability,
Robert shook his head. “I’m not sure. But since she’s now working in the hospital, we’ll have plenty of opportunities to ask.”
Michael sighed. “There are very few doctors in the country who can perform the Stream Cut technique. Having someone with this skill at our hospital is a great asset.
“If we could find out who mentored her, maybe we could track them down and train more doctors in this technique.”
Roben nodded in agreement. He understood that Michael valued talent.
“However. Michael’s tone shifted, his eyes narrowing sharply. “Was it her who suggested using the cardiac stimulant today?”
