Chapter 27
caught off guard, too caught up in praising Layla to remember this part…
He felt a bitde embarrassed but could only reply honestly, “Yes, she’s Samuel’s attending physician.”
Michael sdded thoughtfully, his mind working
Both Layla and Isis could perform the Stream Cut technique, but while his used it to save lives, Layla had insisted on using a cardiac stimulant. He thought. It seems that Layla’s medical skills… might need further evaluation
After a moment of thought, Michael spoke, his tone firm, “You should investigate today’s incident thoroughly. If it was indeed a case of poor medical judgment, appropriate action must be taken,
“We can’t let people think St. Stephen Hospital is careless with lives and damage our reputation.
This made sense, and Robert understood. “Understood, Dr. Green, he replied.
Meanwhile, as Isis finished changing and stepped out, Julian was waiting for her by the door
As he saw her, his gaze softened, a rare warmth flickering in his eyes. “Have you decided on your payment?”
Isis paused, then replied coolly, “Nothing in particular, just give me the money.”
“Alright.” Julian nodded, signaling to Andy, who quickly handed him a blank check. He personally gave it to Isis. “Write whatever amount you want.”
Isis raised an eyebrows, a little surprised. She thought, ‘Mr. Carter is generous, it seems
“Well, I won’t be polite then, Isis said, slipping the check into her bag without hesitation.
No niceties or awkwardness–just a clean transaction. She was used to this treating patients with one hand, collecting fees with amount, she’d decide when the time came.
As she made to leave. Julian suddenly stepped in front of her, blocking her path.
His unexpected move made Isis frown slightly. She lowered her gaze. “Is there something else?”
Julian froze, knowing he should just let her go. But his body acted before his brain had caught up.
Is the other. As for the
Seeing the coldness in her eyes, he felt out of his depth. The confident, commanding Julian, who ruled every situation, suddenly felt awkward in
front of Isis.
He cleared his throat, trying to hide his discomfort. “Can I have your phone number?”
Isis blinked, caught off guard, her expression a mix of caution and surprise
She studied him, taking in the details: his dark, unreadable eyes, sharp nose, well–defined brows, and perfect features. He was undoubtedly handsome, though a bit cold.
She wondered. ‘Is this a pickup attempt? Surely, as the head of the Carter family, he doesn’t need to resort to this
Julian noticed her hesitation and quickly added, “It’s for my grandfather’s health. It would be easier to reach you if I need to consult with you–the renowned Midnight.”
Isis understood immediately, offering her phone number without hesitation. “IT Samuel’s condition changes, you can contact me anytime.”
Since she had accepted the payment, she felt it was her professional duty to stay on top of things. No question about it
Julian opened his mouth to explain further but stopped. He wondered, What can I say, really? That I just want her number?”
Just then, a nurse passing by recognized Isis. “Ms. Moore, what are you doing here?”
The nurse quickly realized and said, “Oh, I just remembered–Naomi isn’t in the VIP ward anymore. You’ll need to go down to the regular ward to
bec her”
Iis paused
For a
a moment, thinking.
hinking. That makes sense! She’d visited Naomi so often before that the nurses must have recognized her.
luis gave a faint smile but didn’t offer any further explanation.

Juluan, however, processed the information and asked, “Your last name is Moore!”
Jus nodded and replied nonchalantly. “Yes, my name is Is Moore. Mr. Carter, I’ll come back to check on Samuel I can guarantee he’ll be able to leave the hospital in a week, safe and sound”.
She looked up and gave him a light smile. That’s all for today. I be leaving now.”
bus wasn’t one for idle chatter, especially in St. Stephen Hospital, where there were people she’d rather avoid. So, she wrapped up the conversation quickly and turned to leave.
Julian watched her walk away in silence, fighting the urge to stop her
Andy looked on in confusion. He thought, ‘Something is definitely off today. Mr. Carter is different. He is talking far more than usual–this conversation probably lasts longer than all the words Mr. Carter has spoken in the last ten days combine
And his usual commanding, decisive demeanor is gone. Instead, he almost serms… awkward! Like a man trying too hard to impress a woman!”
Andy quickly shook off the thought. What am I thinking? Am I crazy for even considering that about Mr. Carter?
Julian turned to Andy, his voice cold. “Ten minutes. Get me all the information on
Andy froze, surprised. He thought. ‘Does Mr. Carter have some sort of mind–reading ability? Is this some kind of punishment?
But under pressure, Andy knew what he had to do. By the ninth minute, he had gathered all the details on Isis and reported back to Julian.
Tsis, female, Twenty–two years old, married, from the Moore family in Sans City……..
“Hold on!” Andy was cut off by Juli
by Julian’s sharp voice. “Did you say… she’s married?”
At the sight of Julian’s icy expression, Andy’s heart skipped a beat. He quickly checked the report again. “Yes, Mr. Carter, and she’s been married for less than ten days. So she’s a newlywed”
The word “newlywed made Julian’s face go even colder. He thought, ‘She is married? That means my actions earlier must’ve seemed utterly nidiculous to her..
For someone as decisive and ruthless as Julian, this news threw him into a state of inner turmoil. It felt as if two conflicting thoughts were battling in our in his head, making him feel invitated
Andy, sensing the tension, hesitated before asking. “Mr. Carter, should I continue with the rest of the information?”
Julian’s voice was low and firm. “No need
Though the Carter family ruled Sans City with an iron fist, Julian still had his own principles
He withdrew his gaze, his expression once again a mask of cold indifference, and walked out with long strides.
Andy, trailing behind, couldn’t shake the feeling that Julian had somehow changed. It was as if a completely different person was walking in front of
him
Meanwhile, Layla, being dragged away by the bodyguards, was furious.
She had no idea why, but those bodyguards were unusually strong, handling her roughly without any mercy. Every part of her body ached from the rough treatment
Adrian, worried for her safety, followed closely behind, watching carefully. After all, the bodyguards were large and imposing, and it was only natural that he would be concerned.
They were dragged into the stairwell, where a row of black–clad bodyguards blocked the entrance to the VIP ward area.
Layla, seething with rage, shouted, “This is a hospital! Why is there violence in a hospital? This is completely uncivilized”
Adrian quickly grabbed her arm and hissed in a low, angry voice, “Enough! Are you trying to make a scene?”
Layla glared at him in disbelief. “You’re actually saying I’m the one making a scene? They’re the ones bullying me, and you’re calling me the troublemaker“”
