Cyril’s POV
“Cyril, I was just trying to help you. Why did you push me?” Digby accused, aggrieved.
Quickly, Shirley rushed over and helped him up. Then, she glared daggers at me and shouted, “Apologize!”
Yet, I stood my ground, cold and unwavering. “I didn’t push him.”
Digby winced, clutching his chest like he was in agony, but still managed to give Shirley a pained, red–eyed look. “My chest… it hurts so much.”
Her face instantly softened, pressing a comforting kiss on his forehead. Then, just as quickly, her expression darkened when she turned back to me. “Apologize, Cyril. Or don’t blame me for what happens next.”
I almost laughed. “For something I didn’t do? No thanks.”
She trembled with rage, pulling out her phone and tapping furiously. Moments later, mine buzzed. When I checked, my stomach dropped. She had sent those so–called “intimate photos” to everyone in the industry. The clients‘ faces were blurred, but mine was crystal
clear.
“Still want to act tough? Let’s see how you plan to keep working in this field now.” Shirley’s voice dripped with triumph.
My grip tightened on my phone as cold crept through me. I knew exactly why she did this – to make sure I could never steal her clients or find another opportunity again.
Digby smirked. “Look at you, Cyril. You’re done. You won’t even be worth the dirt under my shoes.”
I shot them both a cold glare and turned to leave. But Shirley stopped me.
“Stop right there!” her voice cracked like a whip. “Don’t think you can just walk away from this. You betrayed me. Now you’ll pay for it.”
Betrayed her? She was the one who betrayed me. The audacity.
I let out a quiet laugh, throwing her words right back at her. “Don’t think this is over, Shirley. You’ll see what happens when you cross me.”
Enraged, she and Digby grabbed me and dragged me back into the house.
“I knew you were planning something,” she sneered. “But I won’t let you ruin my big moment. Tomorrow, when the company goes public, I’ll rise to the top while you rot in regret.”
She then shoved me into the guest room and locked the door. Through the thin walls, I could hear the sound of their passionate celebration until dawn.
If she wanted me to watch her climb to the top, I’d gladly watch her fall.
The next morning, the day of the company’s IPO arrived.
The trading floor buzzed with anticipation. Shirley stood at the center of it all, dressed in a

flowing white gown, radiating confidence. Her smile was bright, full of pride, as if the world already belonged to her.
Meanwhile, Digby stood beside her, arm linked with hers. He wore a sharp, tailored suit and a polished grin. Together, they looked like the perfect power couple under the bright camera flashes.
“Miss Davison, congratulations!” Reporters swarmed around them, microphones shoved forward. “What would you like to say about today’s milestone?”
Shirley smiled graciously, her voice smooth and composed. “Today marks the most important moment in our company’s history. I’m grateful to our shareholders, employees, and partners for their support. This is only the beginning of even greater things to come.” Digby chimed in, beaming proudly. “Shirley poured her heart and soul into this achievement. Under her leadership, there’s no limit to how far the company will go.” Cameras clicked, capturing their every move. After all, it was rare to see a female CEO of a listed company. Suddenly, a young female reporter raised her hand hesitantly. “Miss Davison, can you comment on your relationship with Mr. Goodwin?”
Shirley smiled softly and turned to Digby, pulling out a pair of matching rings. She held his hand, looking deep into his eyes.
“Digby,” she began, voice trembling with emotion, “this is the most important day of my life. Will you marry me and stand by my side forever?”
Digby’s eyes glistened with tears upon hearing the question.
