Maddison’s eyes began to well up, and I realized what she was doing–she was trying to guilt–trip everyone in the audience.
“I want to thank my sister for letting me be with the man I love, for letting me leave this world without regret. So I wish… I wish all of you would stop making jokes at her expense! She’s the best sister in the world!” she cried.
The audience fell silent. No one was jeering anymore.
I scanned the crowd, wondering if I was mistaken. There was an exceptionally handsome man in the crowd who didn’t seem at all convinced. He smirked.
Maddison turned around, eyes tearful. “Taylor, I want to know… Do you hate me?”
I quivered with rage.
She had been planning this all along! She wanted me to perform for her.
God, I could hurl.
The host passed me another mic, thinking my silence was due to a technical issue.
Lwas already struggling to hide my contempt, but with this?
I decided I wouldn’t suffer in silence anymore.
I took the mic and smiled, then turned to face the crowd. “I want to thank Maddie, too.”
The crowd gasped, murmured, and oohed.
“She didn’t steal my man. Honestly, she just gracefully took on a pile of steaming shit from me. See, if a dog wants to leave you, it doesn’t matter how strong the chains are.

The crowd erupted.
Some clapped, others whistled.
“Yay! Taylor is a badass!”
“Hell yeah!”
“Now that’s the perfect happily–ever–after!”
I beamed. The ecstasy of revenge surged through me.
I turned to see the shock on Maddison’s face and smiled. “I don’t hate you, Maddie. For real! I hope the two of you live and die together, like the lovebirds you are!”
Suddenly, I felt a slap hard on my cheek. I stumbled and crashed into the host.
“You fucking-“My father’s face had turned a dangerous shade of red.
“You are just like your shitty mother! Put on Earth just to fuck with me!” he snarled.
I smirked, then turned serious. “You don’t deserve to talk about my mom, Harry! She wouldn’t have died if it weren’t for the torment you put her through!”

Harry had lost it. He lunged and started beating me up in public.
