Chapter 26
I was stunned, then I snickered. “Finally showing your true colors, Maddle?”
The bitch had been pretending to be as Innocent and weak as a lamb for years. She would even put on a show of asking for my mercy whenever I was punished, just so she could play the saint.
Well, the wolf was finally done cosplaying as a sheep.
“My true colors? I’ve always been this way. You’re the one with issues,” she retorted smugly.
“Whatever, man. I’m not interested in wasting my breath on you. Just tell your Eddy he should show up at the Clerk’s Office by 2:00 p.m. It’s hard to get a slot, so if he’s dragging his feet, we’ll have to reschedule for half a month later or something.”
I was about to hang up when she suddenly asked, her tone sharp, “Has he been seeing you lately, Taylor Jones?!” Her sudden spike in pitch, volume, and the use of my full name clued me in on something–these two had been fighting.
I couldn’t help but gloat a little. “Mm–hmm! What up?”
“How dare you?! He’s my husband! You’re a homewrecking slut ruining other people’s marriages!” she suddenly shouted.
“What? You’re the homewrecker who ruined my marriage! What the hell does this have to do with me?!” I retorted in disbelieving rage. “Where the hell is your tumor grown? Your fucking brain, I bet!”
“Fuck you, bitch! I know you’re-”
“Oh, shut up. You want to stop being a homewrecker? Tell him to get on with the divorce as soon as possible, got it?”
I hung up immediately.
God, why was I talking to someone like this so early in the morning?! I felt as though my whole day was already ruined.
After breakfast, I headed to my office. Edward’s call came while I was on my way.
Frankly, seeing his damn name on the screen frustrated me
Unfortunately, I had no choice but to pick it up–we still had to settle the dissolution of our civil partnership, after all.
“Good morning, Tay. You called?” he greeted gently as though we were still a loving couple.
“Yes. See you at the Clerk’s Office at two,” I said, ready to hang up.
“Wait! I can’t be there today. I’m busy.”
I knew it. He was dragging his feet.
“Goddamn it, Edward. Can’t we just be dignified adults and end this quickly and properly?! Shouldn’t you try to relieve your wife’s anxiety when you know she’s sick?”
“Did the two of you have a fight this morning?” he asked.

“Why? Did she complain to you with tears in her eyes again? Did you call to deliver justice?” I replied sarcastically, “No. I left my phone in her ward this morning. I didn’t expect her to pick it up,” he replied.
“It’s normal for married couples to answer their partner’s phone, duh?” I mocked.
He fell silent.
I couldn’t tell what exactly had happened between them, and I sure as hell couldn’t care less.
“Two in the afternoon, Ed. You have to show up.”
I ended the call on that note.
Unfortunately, that man stood me up.
I waited until it was 2:30 p.m., but still no sign of him.
When I called, he willfully avoided answering.
My rage grew. Just thinking about how long I had been “Mrs. Kennedy” pissed me off. It felt like psychological bondage.
I called Cameron to see if she could pressure Edward into doing this. Unfortunately, calling her was like lighting a fuse on an explosive right in my face.
“Taylor, how dare you call me?! What is your ulterior motive, you snake?! Maddie is incurably sick, and what did you do? You called just to upset her!
“I know you hate me, bitch, so why don’t you come for me instead? I’ll be sure to rip those lips off your face!” she barked.
