“I can stay anywhere I want. It’s easy when you’re alone. Besides, I hate that house. Staying in it disgusts me,” 1 said pointedly, exaggerating how much I hated it.
The truth, however, was the complete opposite.
Everything in that house was by my design. I loved every inch of it, but nothing was more important to me than reclaiming my mother’s keepsake.

I was uncomfortable accepting his money.
What if he used me as a source of blood if his disease flared up again? It felt as though the extra million was his way of buying me as his blood bank.

Now that I had about 1,500,000 dollars, I could probably use my company to secure a loan of 2,000,000 dollars or less from the bank. That would be enough, right?
Deep down, I knew my calculations were off.

I could hear her fake, helpless voice through the phone.
“I’m busy in my office, like I told you. It’s going to be hectic for a few days,” Edward replied.
I smirked. Oh boy, he was already lying about his whereabouts to his wife. I almost felt bad for her.
“Eddy, what’s more important? Me or your business? I don’t have forever, Eddy. Your work will be here for the rest of your life, but what about me?
Edward tried his best to stay patient. “Maddie, we’ve been through this. I have work to do. Let’s not start.”
“Not start what? Edward Kennedy, you think I don’t know you’re sitting right next to her? How many times have you lied to me when you said you weren’t seeing her? What about now?!”
Maddison’s sudden outburst made me jump. I was shocked.
I looked at Edward and scanned our surroundings.
Oh shit. Maddie was right here!
This was very bad. Maddison had been losing her grip. She was operating on pure violent impulses, throwing tantrums without thinking about the consequences.
