Finally, she couldn’t hold on any longer. Desperation filled her voice as she pleaded with Mickey,
“What do you want? Are you really going to drive me to my grave just because I have no money?“”
Mickey didn’t hesitate. “Five million. Give me five million, and I’ll take the kids and disappear from your life forever.“”
After rounds of bargaining, they finally settled on three million.
When Sabrina came looking for me, I was in New York, overseeing the construction of a new factory.
Half a month had passed, and she was almost unrecognizable. Her once delicate beauty was gone–her face was pale, her eye sockets sunken, and her hair hung in a tangled mess.
She looked at me with pitiful eyes.
“Zach, please… save me. Mickey isn’t human.“\
Tears choked her words. She sobbed so hard she could barely breathe.
I dismissed the engineers nearby and spoke calmly,
“Sabrina, we’re divorced. If you need help, shouldn’t you be looking for your dear son and mother? They’re your real family, aren’t they?”
She wiped her tears, looking at me with desperation.[
“Mom’s paralyzed. You know what she’s like–I can’t rely on her.”
Her voice trembled.
“Zach, I was wrong. I know I was wrong. I shouldn’t have favored them. I shouldn’t have hurt She clutched my sleeve, her fingers cold and shaky.”
you.”
.”
“I finally understand… You were always the one who truly cared about me. Only you were willing to help me.” Her voice grew frantic. “Mickey only wants three million. If I give him that, he’ll take the kids and leave us alone. We can start over, Zach. Please.”
Her grip tightened.
“Three million is nothing to you. You can earn it back in five years, maybe even less. Then I’ll make it up to you -I’ll treat you right this time. Let’s have a child of our own. Let’s build a good life together.“}
I let out a cold laugh.
So this was it? My love had made her believe that no matter what she did, I would always forgive her?”
If she had said this to me a month ago, I might have believed she had a moment of clarity, a change of heart.
But no.
For years, she only had eyes for her lover and their children. And now that she had lost everything, she expected me to be waiting in the wings, ready to pick up the pieces?!
“Sabrina,” I said, my voice steady, “just because someone cheated on you and threw you away doesn’t mean you can crawl back to me as a backup plan. I’m not some discarded option for you to return to when things don’t work out.”
Her face went from red to pale, then to a sickly shade of blue.
Tears filled her eyes, shame and anger twisting her features. Then, without another word, she turned and fled, covering her face.
But she didn’t give up so easily.
Every day, she came to the construction site, bringing me chicken soup and pork ribs over rice. And every day, I emptied the food into the trash can right in front of her.”
She stood frozen, her hands twisting together, her head bowed in humiliation.
Funny how people work.”
When they get something too easily, they treat it like worn–out shoes. But the moment they lose it, they realize its worth. The problem is, hearts aren’t made of steel. Once they’ve been scalded with boiling water and oil, they don’t just heal.
Half a month later, Sabrina left in tears. I didn’t say a word to stop her.”
We were both adults. She had to face the consequences of her own choices.”
Still, I wasn’t completely heartless. Every month, I send her ten thousand investment returns, just enough to live on. That was my last act of kindness towards her. I only hoped she would take care of herself.
But not even ten days have passed before I received a court summons.
Sabrina had really gone ahead and sued me.
Net out a slow, mirthless chuckle.

I let out a slow, mirthless chuckle.
I hadn’t wanted to dig up this rotten mess. But if she insisted on dragging me into the filth, then fine. Let’s air out all the ugly truths once and for all.
In court, Sabrina avoided my gaze.
Mickey, on the other hand, sat smugly with his legs crossed, exuding pure arrogance.\
And why wouldn’t he?”
He had three sons–his pride and joy. Someone else had raised them for him, and now he was poised to walk away with millions. Not everyone could pull off a con like that.
Sabrina’s lawyer stood before the court, speaking eloquently,
“The plaintiff not only supported the defendant’s business but also devoted herself to household duties during the marriage. The defendant’s decision to dispose of shared assets without her consent was unjust. Today, the plaintiff seeks her rightful half.“}
I leaned back in my seat, watching the scene unfold with cold amusement.
So was this the game she wanted to play? Fine.
She wanted war?
She was about to get it.
