Chapter 59
The amount he asked for was so absurd that it destroyed any goodwill I could have had for him.
Sure, I might appear to be the cause of this mess, but it was all the Zacks‘ doing.
There was no way I was going to let these fools use me as a scapegoat.
Wayne scanned my office, jealousy clearly written on his face. “I heard you’re divorcing Edward, but in return, he gives you the company.
“And then! You’ve managed to charm the Kenways, huh? Especially that mysterious Mr. Kenway. He even spent 40,000,000 dollars to buy your mom’s bracelet,” he said matter–of–factly.
“The way I see it, 7,000,000 dollars is as easy as a spit, right? Use your womanly charm on Edward or Mr. Kenway, and either of them would gladly throw the money at your face!”
I smiled. No wonder this brat was here. He seemed to think he had me all figured out.
“I broke up with Edward–and it wasn’t exactly on good terms, to put it mildly. I’m not borrowing money from him. Ever,” I replied calmly. “And I’m not involved with the Kenways the way you seem to think. That dollars was basically a loan.”
Wayne didn’t believe me. He marched toward me and glared at me.
“My mom treats you like a daughter, and this is how you’re repaying us?!” he shouted.

“I’ll find a way to get the money, but it will take time. Even if I wanted to liquidate my company, I still can’t do it right now.”
“My family can’t wait anymore, Taylor! Every crisis is crashing down on us! We could go under at any time!” he barked.
Seeing him panic was oddly satisfying.
“Why didn’t your dad think of that when he was making those ‘genius‘ business decisions?” I jeered.
“What does that have to do with anything?!” he roared. “Just give us the money!”
I frowned. “I’ve never seen anyone still acting like they’re the boss while begging for money. It’s like I’m being held up by a bank robber.”
He pointed a trembling finger at me in rage. “Why you

“Shout at me again, Wayne Zack, and I won’t lift a finger to help. So what if you go under? I’ll take care of Aunt Sarah myself. The rest of you? You’re on your own,” I interrupted.
He was still angry, but at least he managed to control himself.
We seemed to be at a standstill when the door suddenly swung open.
Then, a familiar voice called out, “I’ll lend that money, Wayne! But it needs to be under Taylor’s name!”
Wayne turned around in shock. “Oh my God, my cousin–in–law swoops in like a hero!”
“Excuse me?” I raised my voice. “He’s not your cousin–in–law by a long shot!”
“Why not? He married Maddison, who’s basically my cousin!” Wayne said, grinning at Edward.
I stared at him. What a shameless piece of work. I’d always known he was a jackass, but I hadn’t realized just how

true that was until now.
I wasn’t interested in arguing with him, so I declared, “I’ll give you an answer in three days. Go home.”
Wayne was skeptical. “Don’t you dare lie to me.”
“Remember, you’re the one who needs me–not the other way around. Keep up that attitude, and I’ll pray that you go bankrupt sooner, so I can save my money from trying to save your asses,” I warned.
