Edward grew nervous before Wayne had even said a word. Where are you going to get 7,000,000 dollars? You don’t have that much money!”
“What do you want to know?” I retorted. “I know your plan your ass. You’re trying to make me owe you, so you can hold this over me later. I’m not stupid enough to fall for that.”
Edward was flustered. “You’re overthinking this, Tay. I just want to help.”
Wayne started to shriek, “How about you lend me the money right m
“If you
want to borrow money from him, Wayne, be my guest. But get off my property,” I interjected grimly, pointing toward the door. “You two can discuss the loan, but it won’t be coming from me.”
Wayne cast a hopeful look at Edward, who ignored him.
I smiled, knowing I was right about Edward’s intentions.
Wayne realized Edward was never going to lend him money without my involvement. His expression darkened, and he stormed away.
Silence returned to the office.
I turned to Edward. “Why are you here? The procedure is at 3:00 p.m. We can meet over there.”
He ignored the question and frowned. “Where are you getting that much money? Are you selling your company?”
“None of your business,” I replied simply.
Although he was right in a way–I was hoping to sell some company shares.
“Why do you have to go this far? I can lend you the 7,000,000 dollars and save the Zacks. You don’t even have to stress over them this way!”
I considered him skeptically. What was his angle?
I placed my hand on the distress button. “When are you going to tell the truth about why you’re here, Ed? If you’re going to drag it out, I’ll call security.”
His expression darkened. “Fine. I’ve got something I want to talk to you about.”
I glared at him warily and declared, “There’s nothing to talk about other than our divorce.”
He ignored my remark and went straight to his question. “Since when have you been close to Soren Kenway?”
I was a little stunned.
“Don’t tell me you think we started seeing each other before we broke up, Ed. Though I honestly wish I could,” I replied mockingly.
Edward looked so serious it was almost imposing. “You know Soren and I have some beef. Are you just trying to provoke me by being with him?”
I chuckled. “Why should your issue be my concern?”
“We aren’t divorced yet.”
I retorted after scanning his face, “Completely thanks to you!

“Also, speaking of your ‘beef.‘ In the past, when I didn’t know better, I stood by your side and called him all sorts of names like he was our common enemy.
“But now? Now, I realize it’s all one–sided. You think way too highly of yourself, you bozo.”
Edward was displeased. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
“Your ‘beef‘ with him is because you think he stole some of your projects and collaborations. But why did you think you were entitled to them in the first place?
“Did it occur to you that maybe he was just more competent? Isn’t business supposed to be a meritocracy? Why are you blaming others for your incompetence?”

As expected, Edward was upset. “So the two of you are close enough that you’ve started flattering and defending him, huh? And you’re still telling me you two aren’t together?!”
