Maddison sputtered, the machine next to her beeping an alert.
Edward quickly leaned in and patted her back reassuringly. Maddie, please. You should rest.”
“Don’t tell me what to do!” she snapped, shoving him away
Then, she cackled lightly at me, “That’s why your mor die so soon. It was divine retribution! Divine punishment! She deserv- Cough, cough!”
She gasped for breath, struggling to recover from the violent coughing fit.
Edward’s expression darkened. He patted her back again. “Maddie, I told you, not one more word, alright? You need to take care of yourself. You’ve got everything you wanted now, haven’t you?”
His tone had risen at the end, and he was clearly upset.
She looked away from me, staring at him in disbelief. “Did you just scold me, Eddy?”
“No, I was just frustrated for your sake,” he explained, his voice calm but tinged with irritation.
“My sake? My sake?! No! You’re doing this for her sake! For her! You don’t want me to show her the truth because her poor, fragile heart won’t be able to handle it! You still love her deep down! You just wish I’d die already so you can be with her again!”
Edward was stunned. He stared at her for a long moment before slowly removing his hand from her shoulder. He straightened his back and took a step back. “When will you stop doubting me, Maddison? I told you I was worried about you. I wanted you to calm down and rest so your condition wouldn’t worsen. That’s all.”
“Me, doubting you? Can you swear you don’t care about her? That she’s nobody to you?!” she screamed. “You’ve been glancing at her nonstop since she entered the room! You thought I didn’t see that?!”
To my surprise, her coughing fit seemed to stop.
I sneered to myself. Maddison had lost her mind.
Edward had done nothing but show kindness and care for her. He’d spent 7,000,000 dollars just to rent my bracelet, all to make her happy, even if only for a few minutes.
And this… was what she gave him.
I saw the expression on his face–profound regret.
The ward fell silent. The air felt suffocatingly cold.
Cameron must have sensed something was wrong because she quickly tried to pacify her.
“Fine,” Edward said tiredly, his voice filled with despondence. “I can see it now–you’ve never loved me. You’ve only wanted me as a tool to piss off Taylor. I was just a pawn in your revenge all along.”
He turned to leave.
Maddison suddenly lunged forward, grabbed his wrist, and began to cry. “No, Eddy! That’s not true! I love you!! really do!
“Maybe I started out wanting to use you, but I fell in love with you over time… I really want to be your wife… I hate my life… I hate how short it is, how it keeps me from being by your side for as long as I want..

“I love you! I don’t want you to leave! Please don’t leave me”
Maddison cried so hard she shook.
Unfortunately, Edward remained unmoved. He must have ly had enough.
“Let go, Maddison. I’ll never believe you again,” he said, trying to pry her hand off him..
Despite her weakness, Maddison somehow found the strength to cling to him tightly.
Tears welled up in Cameron’s eyes as well. “Please, Ed. Maddie’s suffered so much. She has only a few days left at most…. Do you really want to do this to her at a time like this?”
I saw a subtle change in Edward’s expression, but in the end, he stood still, not even glancing at her.
