Chapter 86
But if he wanted nothing from me, why else
would he be so nice to me?

What? Was I supposed to believe that he had somehow ignored every beautiful, exceptional, wealthy, elite socialite and fallen in love with a publicly abandoned young woman, practically disowned by her own elite family?
No way.
I had no idea what to do with Patel Phillippe, and I couldn’t bring myself to call him.
He would call me about it one day, right? After all, it was an expensive watch!
I waited and waited, but his call never came.
In the afternoon, Harry called to yell at me for skipping the meeting-
I told him I was too drunk to get up, but he didn’t care. All he wanted to know was whether I would show up at the board meeting.
Of course! I had taken what was rightfully mine–from my mother, and therefore from me! That was the whole point of my fight with the Joneses!
How could I possibly miss my own “coronation” ceremony, so to speak?
I showed up at Harry’s company and announced myself as the second–largest shareholder after him. It felt significant having this one goal fulfilled on my birthday.
Before I left, I asked Harry, “Do you remember what day it is today? It’s my birthday.”
He leered at me. “Do I look like I want to remember?”
I felt a chill, but still replied as calmly as I could, “Well, you should try. Because today is the day your downfall begins.”
He stared at me, bewildered. “What the hell? You crazy nutcase!”
I smiled, not bothering to respond further.
My aunt had invited me to join her and my grandmother for my birthday.
When I told them about the shares I’d secured, they were thrilled and excited to watch Harry’s inevitable downfall.
At one point, my aunt seemed a little wary. “You’ll be going up against a veteran, dear. Your dad is a fox and a snake. Your mom was a victim for a reason.”
I nodded. “Don’t worry. I know that very well.”
Of course, he was trying to trap me. But I would persevere. I would win–right in front of Harry and Cameron and make them suffer their just deserts!
1 asked my aunt about her company.
“Those bastards were hostile and uncooperative at first, but I’m no doormat they can walk over. I’ve fired a few of them, and now the rest are much more obedient.”

I gave her a thumbs–up.
Then the doorbell rang. We all looked up, confused. “Who’s coming at a time like this?”
Clara, the housekeeper, answered the door and turned to me. “Mr. Kennedy is here.”
What?! I scanned the silhouette at the door. It was him!
Edward entered and greeted politely, “Good evening, Grandina Edna, Mrs. Zack. I knew you’d be celebrating her birthday, so I thought I’d join you.”
My mood soured instantly.
