Chapter 91
Soren replied earnestly, “I wouldn’t do that. We don’t actually use that much luxury in life, and we certainly don’t base our preferences on the name or brand of things.
“If we like them, then they’re precious. Even a small trinket from a regular shop on the street could be a treasure!”
I nodded approvingly, What a family!
The waitress served our drinks, and I took a few sips of hot chocolate.
Warm contentment filled me, and I felt more like myself again.
The question that had been puzzling me for days came to mind, and I put my cup down. “Say, Mr. Kenway… How did you meet me on Sunday?”
“It was a coincidence. I was there to take someone else home.”
“I see. Thank you,” I said earnestly. “I must have given you quite a bit of trouble, being so drunk. You took care of me all night! I’m very sorry for the trouble.”
Soren smiled helplessly. “When are you going to stop sounding so formal? It’s a bit awkward…”
“Oh! I… uh.” I smiled awkwardly. “Force of habit from work”
“You’re treating me like one of your clients?” he asked.
Oh no, this sounded even weirder.
“No, you’re more like my… creditor!” I said hurriedly.
Soren looked at me, stunned. Then, after a moment, his smile grew even more helpless.
He sighed. “And here I thought you’d say I’m your friend.”
I flashed him a grin. Haha… As if I was qualified…
He took a sip of his coffee and said quietly, “It’s dangerous for a woman to be drunk and alone–especially someone as pretty and young as you. You never know who might take advantage of that.”
“I agree,” I replied. “I’m rarely that… unrestrained. That was the first time I’d ever gotten that drunk! I couldn’t even remember some of what happened. If it weren’t for you, I might have just fallen asleep on the sidewalk or something.”
“That was your first time being drunk?” He looked into my eyes. “It was my first time taking care of a drunken woman.”
My cheeks burned. “Okay… did I… uh, give you a ton of grief that night?”
He nodded candidly, offering no sugar–coating. “Quite a lot in fact. You were very troublesome. You talked a lot, had some… odd requests, and then you threw up.”
I felt like I might burst into flames from embarrassment!
My mind wandered to fragmented memories of us cuddling and kissing. “Did I… ask for anything… really, really embarrassing?”
He raised an eyebrow. “Such as?”
“Such as…” I trailed off. I wanted to say it, but I just couldn! Not in front of him!

Ah! This was starting to feel like I was deliberately leading him into a romantic situation or something! “Nothing!” I finished, a little too quickly. Oh yes, I was a coward.
“Just… thanks.”
I gulped down my hot chocolate.
Oh, wait! The watch!
“Mr. Kenway, I forgot to return this to you,” I said, pulling out a delicate watch box. “Please take a look and see if there are any issues with it.”
“Oh.” He sounded disinterested and frowned slightly. “I was cleaning up after you threw up, so I took off my watch and forgot to bring it with me when I left.”
Say what?!
