I felt so embarrassed I didn’t think I could ever raise my head to face him again.
Soren knew how badly I felt and offered some gentlemanly consolation. “It’s fine to let your hair down and have fun with your friends every once in a while. It helped you release stress, didn’t it?
“Besides, I’m the only one who saw this other side of you. No one else has, right?”
He lowered his voice humorously. “This could be a secret… just between the two of us.”
Something was sparkling in his eyes. It almost made me think it could be something more.
My embarrassment deepened. My cheeks burned even more and my heart raced.
And my mind–oh God–was starting to fantasize again.
My instincts told me that our relationship was not normal at all.
But could I say that aloud? I couldn’t.
What if he didn’t feel the same way about me? It would be like I thought I was that hot. Our relationship would become even weirder!
In the end, I decided to respond with humor, too. “Well, looks like I have no choice but to pay for your coffee for keeping my super secret.”
“I welcome it,” Soren replied, smiling as he raised his cup.
I gulped down my hot chocolate, hoping it would hide my burning cheeks and his glimmering eyes.
Then, quite suddenly, Michael showed up.
He nodded politely at me before whispering into Soren’s ear, “The time is near, sir. We need to return to the office. There’s a meeting to attend.”
He had been making time for this coffee the whole time!
“You have somewhere else to be, right, Mr. Kenway?” I rose with a smile. “Until next time, then?”
“Mm–hmm.” He stood up as Michael picked up his coat and laptop.
Then, he raised his elbow, gesturing. “Let’s go together.”
I had some extra time with him!
My heart warmed. “Alright.”
While we waited for the elevator, Soren suddenly turned to me. “I almost forgot something important! You’re invited to Mom’s birthday party. I forgot to bring the invitation, but I assure you, we sincerely want you to be there.”
I was shocked. “M–Me? But we… We aren’t family or old friends!”
There was no way I met the status requirement to attend an event like that!
“My mom insisted two days ago. But, well… You and I had a bit of a misunderstanding at the time, so I didn’t say anything”
I was silent.

“Not really. Either way, you have to come tomorrow evening. I’ll send a driver for you.”
He looked so earnest and insistent that I could only nod in return.
The elevator arrived, and Michael held the door open while Soren and I entered.
I felt tense. My hands were firmly clutching my bag as I stood next to him, like a schoolgirl standing next to the principal.
“I met Mr. Kennedy that evening. He seemed to be following us and ended up staking out the place for the whole night,” Soren suddenly mentioned. “Are the two of you still… stuck together?”
I was a little startled. So, he knew?
I wouldn’t have known if Edward hadn’t made such a big fuss about it during the confrontation in my grandmother’s neighborhood.
