Chapter 94
Chapter 94
I hadn’t expected Soren to know as well.
It made me feel even more embarrassed. I had lied to Edward about us having sex “many times!” Just thinking about it left me tongue–tied in the real world.
“He… He, uh, refuses to divorce me. I have to resort to suing him. The trial starts in June,” I said hurriedly, looking away.
“That’s more than half a month left.”
I sighed. “I know! But the court chose the date. I have no say in it.”
“Hey, you’ve got time,” Soren comforted me. “But do you know they almost always go for mediation instead of a divorce verdict in the first session? You’ll probably have to sue him again after about six months to get an actual divorce.”
“I know. My lawyer told me as much. It’s going to be a long fight,” I said.
I’d have to wait at least six months before I was legally divorced!
As he nodded, the elevator stopped. We stepped out together.
Soren’s driver was already waitin

at the entrance.
He turned to me as Michael opened the door. “See you tomorrow evening.”
I watched the car drive away, staring in that direction for a while. Then I slapped my forehead.
I’d forgotten to ask one of the most important questions ever!
Why were they so nice to me? What was their real reason?
But wait! I was invited to Lisbeth’s birthday party. I had to seize this chance tomorrow and ask!
Just remembering that I was invited to birthday made me feel honored. I had to be at
my best!
When I got home from work, I searched my wardrobe.
The wardrobes in the unit I rented were SE

Oh, it was time to walk the dog, huh?
I quickly put the leash around his neck, changed into
something more fitting, and headed downstairs.
Unfortunately, I came face–to–face with two of the least welcome people in my life: Edward and Cameron.
“Why are you two here?” I asked, alarmed.
Edward looked crestfallen. “Maddie isn’t going to make it. You have to see her one last time.”

I was stunned.

Frankly, I harbored no affection or familial sentiment toward Maddison. I really couldn’t care less.
“No,” I replied without hesitation. “She hates my guts, and the feeling is mutual. Seeing me will just provoke more hate, and nobody wants someone to die while wallowing in rage and resentment. I’m not doing that–even for her.”
We all knew we were bitter enemies, so why put on a show no one believed in? Hell, I might even accidentally laugh at her finally dying. No one would like that!
Edward hesitated, but Cameron spoke first. “You have to go Right now!”
I frowned. What the hell?
“Maddie’s condition is terrible. She hasn’t been eating for days, and now not even the IV catheter is feeding her. Her blood levels are plummeting… The doctor said-‘
I understood. They were trying to use me as a human blood bank again!
“For God’s sake, why don’t you donate your blood? Your blood type is a match!” I snapped.
“I already did yesterday,” he replied darkly.
