That very day, someone else confessed to me. Fueled by anger and heartbreak, I agreed to date them.
I admit I was impulsive, but…
I didn’t understand.
I didn’t understand why he didn’t respond. If something had come up, why didn’t he reach out later? And why, after all these years, had he never tried to contact me?
Now, he was saying he liked me? Was this supposed to be some kind of joke?
Ten years had passed, and many of the details were blurry, but the sense of hurt and humiliation I’d felt back then was as sharp as
ever
It was enough to make my expression turn cold despite myself.
“Emma,” I said, forcing a smile. “I think you’ve misunderstood something.”
I beard my own calm voice say, “Edward and I are not together.”
“And…. I already have someone I like.”
After that day, the dynamic between us grew noticeably colder. Our interactions were limited strictly to work matters.
While I felt a twinge of disappointment, I also couldn’t deny the relief. After all, under normal circumstances, we shouldn’t have
any unnecessary interactions.
Berides…

I’d long since accepted that my feelings for him had gone unanswered. Now, hearing that he’d actually felt the same way all along
left me unsure of how to face him.
On a lighter note, Emma joined our company as an intern and was currently working as Edward’s assistant. Initially, I worried
she might struggle to adapt, but to my surprise, her quick adaptability helped her blend in seamlessly with the team.
As for the tabby, it was discharged from the clinic once its condition stabilized. Emma, enthusiastic as ever, took it in herself,
giving it a happy home.
The white kitten was adopted by Emma’s best friend, the tabby kitten went to the vet who’d cared for them, and the remaining
black kitten ended up with me.
This little black kitten had been the weakest of the litter since birth, with scruffy fur and a frail frame, but for some reason, I felt
an inexplicable fondness for it.
I named it Coal.
Since I spent long hours at the office, often working overtime, I decided Coal needed more care than I could provide at home. With
Edward’s permission, I started bringing Coal to the office.
In our company, only directors and above had private offices, and they were allowed to keep plants, or even pets, as long as it
didn’t disrupt others. So, Coal spent most of its days in Edward’s office.
Edward occasionally helped feed and care for it, and over time, people started assuming Coal was his cat.
However, Edward took a leave of absence for family matters recently. It had already been several days, leaving me to make special
trips to his office to feed Coal.
As for Edward himself-
Though I was curious, I hadn’t asked.
That was until Emma found me, her face crumpled in distress.
“Yuna, aren’t you going to comfort Edward? I can’t get in touch with him at all right now.”
