Chapter 111
Ha, I’m no fan of all that highfalutin commotion either!” soleil replied, gesturing to the waitresses behind her.” Yeap, just this spot, please!”
They promptly set up a coffee table and arranged desserts, dishes, and a bottle of red wine on it. Then, they placed some stools for us.
She sat down and beckoned. “Come on, Taylor. You haven’t had anything yet, right?”
I followed her lead.
“You really played me, Sol. I didn’t even know you were the mastermind behind much of my windfall!” I moaned jokingly.
“I learned to be a mysterious heroine from the very best, after all: you! Didn’t you save Soren twice and disappear without telling anyone your name?”
I chuckled. Well, she wasn’t technically wrong…
“Did you leave your brother at the hospital just to drive me home that day?” I asked between bites.
“Meh. He’s got a driver anyway. He just had to wait for him
“What happened to him that day?”
“The weather was dry, and his tendency to overwork himself came back to bite him. He started having nonstop nosebleeds, so he asked me to drive him to the hospital for a check–up,” she replied.
“Oh my God! And what did the doctor say?”
“He said it’s not that big of a deal, actually. He just didn’t get enough rest. See, he went to the hospital instead of calling our family physician because he was worried Mom would kill him over it.”
“Oh, I’ve heard that from your mom. He overworks himself through the nights a lot, doesn’t he?”
“You think? No one can talk any senst into that doofus!” Soleil grumbled before suddenly turning serious. “That’s why, Taylor Jones, you’ve been entrusted with the mission to make sure he takes care of himself! The last thing anyone wants is for him to die before he’s 30!”
I blushed and avoided her gaze. “Wait, how am I supposed to do that? We’re not family or anything-”
“You’re the one who saved his life! Tell him, ‘Boy, I saved your life twice, and I can take it back if you don’t take care of it!‘ That should do the trick!” Soleil replied, wagging her finger as if she were acting out a scene.
I laughed. How could I possibly talk to him like that?
Soleil studied my face seriously. “I’m not joking around, Tay. He remembers you even after all these years- which means you mean a lot to him. Your words will carry weight!”
Something about the way she phrased it felt a little off. She made it sound like there was something between us.
But I didn’t want to bring it up, so I replied noncommittally “Fine, I guess I can give him a friendly piece of advice or two.”
“Don’t stop at just two!”
“Right, right.” I chewed my food and pointedly avoided looking up.
“Oh, another thing!” she suddenly exclaimed, putting her fork down.
IS BONUS
“Yes?!
“You’ve been measuring everyone in my family to make dresses and suits for them while I’ve been throwing concerts abroad, Hight? That! Is! Not! Fair! You need to fix that!” she whined.
Despite her frustration, It only endeared her to me. I chuckled.
“Well, you’re welcome to visit my workshop and pick one of my most prized collections,” I replied.
I’d been hoping to repay the Kenways for all the help they’d given me, anyway.
“No, I want something made just for me. A unique dress!” he demanded playfully.
“That’s fine, but I’ve got my hands full lately. You’ll have to wait.”
“I can wait. It’s not that urgent.
“Come to my office so I can take your measurements. Just remember to contact me beforehand,” I said.
After the meal was finished, I began feeling a bit self–conscious about keeping Soleil company, so I decided to return to the hall.
What I didn’t expect was the change n the ladies‘ attitude toward me.
