“It’s safer to have John’s help, so don’t worry about that. And don’t worry! I called simply because Sol told me she visited you at work. She said you’re almost done with my sult, so I thought I’d call and check in.”
I smiled and replied in a voice note, “I’ve finalized the plan for the suit, so I’ll show you once you’re back. ”
He responded, “Great!”
I had a feeling he was still busy, so I decided against chatting further and ended the conversation with a “See you!” Half an hour later, the Bentley arrived. I got in and made it home safely.
To ease his mind, I texted Soren to let him know I was home. He didn’t reply immediately, so I couldn’t tell if he was busy or had already gone to sleep.
It wasn’t until the next morning that I saw his reply at 3:05 am.
Soren: [Got it.]
He had worked that late into the night?!
I frowned. I remembered what Soleil had told me about his brother’s workaholic tendencies.
I had no authority to chastise him, but at that moment? Man, I really wanted to say something!
I was about to text him when I remembered he had to be sleeping by then. What if he hadn’t activated Do Not Disturb mode? My message might wake hiin up!
I’d probably save the chastising for the next time we met.
It was a Friday, so I had to get up for work.
While washing up, I carefully removed the plasters to check my injury.
The wound had stopped bleeding, but bits of skin were fraying at the edge. It hurt whenever it rubbed against my shirt.
I seriously hated Edward for doing this to me. I couldn’t wait until we voided the civil partnership!
Since my car had been left at the company the night before, I took the commute to work today. On the way, I got a call from an unfamiliar number.
“Good morning, Taylor Jones speaking.”
“You bitch! How could you have hurt my brother that way? You know how frail his body is, right?! And yet you let him bleed on his own like that? Did you want to kill him?!”
It was Edith, howling hysterically at me.
I frowned at the number. Why was she calling me from a different one instead of her usual?
Ah, she must have been worried I wouldn’t answer. 1
“Well, if you’re that worried about his frailty, why did you let him perform blood transfusions on Maddison?” I retorted scornfully.
“That’s not even the same! My brother was trying to save a life!” she barked

“And your brother brought last night’s accident on himself
“How could you, Taylor?! He’s trying to redeem himself and win you back! And this is how you treat him, you gold -digging, scheming, cold–hearted slut?! I don’t even know what Mr. Kenway sees in you! You must have lied to him!”
The hum of the commute was already annoying enough, bi Edith’s rant made it unbearable. As such, I ended the call before she could finish.
What the hell was that? To get blasted like that so early in the morning…
Edward was becoming a bigger source of my problems with each passing day. I was glad I had distanced myself emotionally from him to the point where nothing he said or did could sway me anymore.
There was a lot of work to do. Since gaining new clients from Lisbeth’s barquet, I had even more requests to fulfill. I had no time or energy to waste on Edward and his endless drama.
Someone called me around noontime. I was looking at a contract when I saw the name on the screen
My heart skipped a beat. For some reason, every time I saw Soren’s name, I couldn’t help but feel a little excited.
“Hello, Mr. Kenway?”
