Chapter 149

It wasn’t until I found a competent manager for my fashion house that I finally had a chance to take a break! But just as I was about to relax, new trouble arrived.

“Tay? Cameron’s here again. She insists on seeing you!” Cherry reported one day as I worked in my workshop. I glanced at her over the top of the model I was adjusting. A bad feeling crept over me. “Her again?” “Yeah. And she looks like she’s here to stir up trouble,” she replied. “Mr. Young’s been talking to her, telling her you’re not here, but she refuses to leave. Do you want to see her, or should we have security escort her out?”

I could guess why she was here.

I considered my options, then sighed. “How about this? Invite her to the coffee shop downstairs and tell her I’m rushing back here from outside. Let her wait.”

“Okey–dokey!”

I continued to work after Cherry followed my instructions, my mind racing for solutions and a plan.

After Harry paid off his taxes, Harbinger Inc. began turning a profit. Ironically, since he had sold the company to trap me in his tax evasion scheme, he couldn’t benefit from its revenue at all.

His plot against me had backfired spectacularly, becoming the bane of his existence. He’d shot himself in the foot and was now drowning in debt.

He failed to realize that his scheme had inadvertently fueled my success. As Harbinger Inc.’s largest shareholder, I received a steady yearly income from the company even though I wasn’t involved in its management.

I had triumphed while he suffered a crushing defeat.

No wonder Cameron showed up–she was either here to demand money or a stake in Harbinger Inc.

I waited for Cherry to confirm she’d completed the task I assigned, worked for another half hour, and then finally went to meet her.

When I arrived, Cameron was venting her frustration at Cherry in the coffee shop. She was practically fuming.

“Is Taylor ever going to show up?! She’s just putting on airs because she’s fucking made it big, isn’t she?! She’s trying to show me up by making me wait forever, isn’t she?!”

“Mrs. Jones, Miss Jones is a very busy woman. She now owns two companies and has a group of socialites and elites commissioning her designs. She’s just incredibly busy these days,” Cherry replied, with a noticeable hint of superiority in her tone.

Cameron’s fury only intensified. “Taylor robs everyone for her personal gain! That’s what she fucking does! That fashion company used to belong to Edward! And Harbinger Inc. was Harry’s! She’s just a greedy fucking bitch!”

“Now, now, Mrs. Jones, that’s not entirely fair. She owns the company because you sold it to her, remember? And it all started as a plot against her. Poor Miss Jones almost didn’t make it!” Cherry countered.

“You and your smart mouth! The dog is just like her master in that regard!” Cameron snapped.

I chuckled to myself, overhearing their exchange.

Then, stepping into the coffee shop, I spoke up. “Thanks for the compliment, Mrs. Jones. I agree, my employees are amazing. Cherry, for your work, I’m raising your wage!
