I took my seat and crossed my legs, making a reassuring gesture. “Now, now. Calm down. Sit down, and we can have a good, slow talk.”
She shot me the mother of all glares. She was clearly not in the mood for a “good, slow talk,” but she was at a disadvantage.
Cherry ordered a cup of hot chocolate and whispered, “I should stay with you.”
She was worried that Cameron might suddenly attack me and wanted to stick by my side for support.
I sipped my hot chocolate. “So, what is it?”
Cameron had already finished about half of her coffee. She Hesitated for a moment before blurting out, “We’re out of money. Give us 7,000,000 dollars.”
I raised an eyebrow. “Do I look like a moron to you?”
“Don’t pretend, Taylor. We know you’re rich. 7,000,000 dollars is nothing to you. If you refuse, then return those shares you own. Sell them to me!”
Okay, now I was genuinely intrigued. “Seriously? What makes you think you can command me like that? Because you’re my stepmom? Or because you’re just that undignified and shameless?”
“Bitch, do you even have a limit to your cruelty, you snake?!” Cameron snapped, raising her voice. “Your dad is already in jail, and not even Edward could get him a lawyer who could get him out! Isn’t that enough revenge for you?!”
Well, well. Edward followed through on his word. His health must have improved–why else would he have had time to work on this? That meant our annulment could get back on track sooner than expected.
“Oh, so Edward’s lending a hand again. Then why don’t you ask him for money?” I said flatly.
“We have to pay him back one day! What’s the point?!”
“What the hell? Did you actually come to me thinking you wouldn’t have to pay back a debt?” I shot back.
“You’re the reason we’re in this mess! And you’re his daughter–we have every right to demand your money and your obedience! How dare you even suggest we repay you?!” she snarled.
I laughed tiredly. “Sorry, no can do. Bye–bye.”
She suddenly spread her arms wide, blocking my path. “Not so fast!”
With a sigh, I returned to my seat and took another sip of hot chocolate.
“Sure, you don’t want to hand over the shares that used to belong to your mom, but you have to give us what used to be your dad’s! Those don’t belong to you!” Cameron snapped.
I shook my head. “Nope. I didn’t ask for them–he gave them to me in exchange for that bracelet.”
The bracelet was fake!”
I smiled. “Oh, was it? Who told you that?”
“You did, you bitch! You had the real one with you the whole time!”
