As a consolation, they had told me I’d make a perfect lingerie model. They had suggested I consider it.
Consider my ass! I loved money, but that was a line I would never cross!
Besides, I’d already been harassed several times by creeps while working as a model. When Edward heard about it, he insisted I quit the job.
Reflecting on it now, I had to admit–those days were truly wonderful. I stayed busy, yes, but I was full of energy. and each day felt like a fresh adventure. I never felt tired.
I couldn’t say the same these days, though. As the head of a company, I was constantly overwhelmed. Even spending time with my closest friends over good food and wine had become a rare indulgence.
A single, innocent remark sent my mind spiraling down memory lane.
In the real world, however, Soren was still trying to understand what I meant. “Your figure is somehow not qualified?”
“No. If I were, I’d be a supermodel by now,” I replied.
He fell into stunned silence, but I was too self–conscious to explain exactly what I meant.
Soleil, the Pretend Sleeper, intervened. “Jesus, Ren. You really don’t know anything outside of work, do you? Models can’t have big boobs and butts! Taylor’s figure is too pronounced.”
Now both Soren and I fell silent.
It didn’t matter if it was an autumn evening or the car was cool at 20°C. My cheeks felt like they were on fire. Then, suddenly, Soleil sat straight up and asked Soren, “But what do you think of her figure?”
I froze and tugged at my coat in a futile attempt to cover my chest. Then I regretted it because it probably made Soren think I was self–conscious about it. What if he thought I was trying to hide something?
But I couldn’t just open my coat and expose myself–especially not with the seatbelt making my chest look even larger!
The air seemed to thicken with awkwardness.
Soren’s expression was unreadable, his gaze distant.
I had never seen him so flustered.
“Taylor, what’s that supposed to mean? My brother is a certified gentleman who would never do that to you!” Soleil said, her amusement evident as her eyes flickered to my coat.
I wished I could just jump out of the window and onto an oncoming truck. Just take me away from this world!
Soren had reached his limit. His expression darkened as he asked sternly, “Do you want me to throw you out of this car?”
“! I knew it! You never wanted me in this car from the start! You said you were taking me home, but that’s just a cover! Your real intention is- Oww!”
pinched her sharply on the waist to stop her.
She stared at me, shock written all over her face. “What… What was that for?! Are you bullying me with my brother now?!”

Soleil smiled mischievously. Her eyes darted back and forth between Soren and me, before she murmured, “I knew I shouldn’t have gotten in this car. Now I’m just the unwanted third wheel for you two!”
“Sol, that’s not what I meant!” I protested.
“Save your explanations,” she interrupted with feigned annoyance, then leaned back against the car door again.
I froze.
I really didn’t want to turn around and see what expression Soren was making now…
