“Sounds good.” I was about to hang up the phone when I suddenly remembered something “How about we have lunch tomorrow?”
“Sure.”
My emotions were running high, but I forced myself to remain calm as I said, “See you tomorrow then.”
“See you tomorrow.”
I couldn’t help but giggle like a complete idiot as I hung up
Just then, my phone rang again.
I checked the screen and saw that Soren had already sent over his bank details.
After quickly texting him I received the message, I logged into my bank account and transferred the money.
I was in such a good mood that day that it was obvious to anyone who saw me. That was, until I was nearly done with my work.
I was rushing to finish Soleil’s dress, planning to work overtime, when I heard my phone ring.
I got up to take a quick break before checking it. It was Edward.
It had been a few days since I had heard from him, so I assumed he was calling to discuss our annulment.
“Hello?”
“Are you done for the day, Taylor?” Edward’s voice was serious.
“Why? Do you need something?” I asked, getting straight to the point.
There was no need for small talk between us. I preferred to keep phone calls brief unless there was something specific to discuss.
“I want to ask you out for dinner to talk about the details of our annulment.”
I sneered. “The details of our annulment, huh? What’s there to discuss? We don’t have any joint assets, and there are no children to fight over.”
“Of course there is. You’ve got a house and a company in your name, don’t you?” he stated matter–of–factly.
My mind went blank.
“What are you implying, Edward?” My voice turned cold, and I gritted my teeth.
Was he trying to claim part of my company now that he knew it’s doing well?
“Why are you getting worked up? Everything I’m asking for is fair and reasonable, don’t you think?” Edward’s tone was unnervingly calm, as if I were the one being unreasonable.
I took a deep breath, trying to steady myself. I needed to stay calm and not do anything rash.
Once I had collected myself, I asked, “What do you want, then? Half of my company? If that’s the case, should I also have a claim to your family’s wealth?”
According to our country’s law, all assets acquired during a civil partnership were considered marital property,

and I had the right to half of it.
The Kennedies had been in business for generations, and their wealth far exceeded mine. If it came to that, I would still have the upper hand.
Surprisingly, Edward remained composed and replied, “Yes, you do have that right. That’s why I’m asking you out for dinner–to discuss it further.”
A thought suddenly struck me. He might not be trying to take my company after all. Maybe he was simply trying to complicate the process. He could be stalling because he didn’t want the annulment to happen.
Now that I understood his strategy, I felt much calmer. “There’s nothing to discuss. We’ll see each other in court if you don’t agree. My lawyer will be in touch with your lawyer, so I suggest you deal with this through them.”
It was better to leave such matters to the professionals.
I was confident that a divorce lawyer would know exactly how to handle asset division, so I wasn’t about to waste my time on it.
I hung up and got back to work.
I needed to finish Soleil’s dress as soon as possible so I could focus on Soren’s suit for the centennial. I didn’t have time to waste on trivial matters like this.
I stayed in my studio until 11:00 p.m., at which point I decided to drag my exhausted body home.
To my surprise, as soon as I stepped out of the elevator, I saw someone standing at my doorstep. It was Edward. “Taylor…” Edward stood up when he saw me, his eyes filled with an expression that seemed to suggest he’d missed me.
I felt nothing but disgust at the sight of him and looked away as I walked toward my door.
“Taylor…” he called out again, stepping closer.
I then caught the strong smell of alcohol, which made me frown as I turned to face him. “Have you been drinking again?”
