My mind was on red alert, and I stared at Edward in disbelier.
Who would have thought Edward would turn out to be such a huge psycho?

“This is against the law, and you know it, Edward! Get away this instant, or I’ll Ack!”
Before I could finish, Edward shoved me toward my own house, cutting off my warning.
Thankfully, my survival instincts kicked in. I grabbed onto the doorframe like a maniac, refusing to go inside.
I knew the moment that door closed, I was done for.
“Help! Help!” I tried calling out, but the bastard suddenly kissed me!
Still refusing to give him what he wanted, I turned my head away and fought back with everything I had.
During the struggle, my hand landed on something from my shoe rack, and without thinking, I hurled it at him. I had no idea what it was, but I didn’t care.
Bullet came charging out, barking furiously before lunging at Edward’s leg.
Thanks to him, I managed to break free from Edward’s grasp and reach for my phone. “Hello, police? I’m-”
“You fucking dog! Get lost!”
Edward kicked Bullet away with brutal force and grabbed my phone, smashing it onto the floor.
He was a real madman now–more terrifying than I’d ever seen before.
Bullet charged at him again, but another vicious kick sent him spinning, moaning in pain.
My heart broke for him.
Fury surged through me as I snatched up an umbrella from the foyer and swung it at Edward, hitting and stabbing him with everything I had.
Of course, I was scared shitless. With our physical differences, every blow I landed on him felt like throwing an egg at a rock.
At that moment, I couldn’t tell if Edward had always been this violent and just had hidden it well, or if he had completely lost control because I’d pushed him too hard into getting the divorce.
Either way, he was a terrifying force to reckon with. If he truly decided to have his way with me, I doubted I’d be able to escape.
Even so, I fought back with everything I had.
Fortunately, the commotion we caused alerted my neighbors, a young couple, who were both shocked to witness what was happening.
The young man, who was physically imposing, grabbed Edward and tried to restrain him.
However, for some reason, Edward managed to summon enough strength to break free and fight back. Meanwhile, his girlfriend was on the phone, likely speaking to the police, judging by the urgency in her tone.
Before she could finish the call, I heard the elevator stop on my floor, followed by the arrival of several police officers.

Thankfully, they were able to locate me even though Edward had smashed my phone before I could provide them with my address.
“That’s enough! Break it up now!” one of the officers shouted as his colleagues intervened, separating Edward from the young man.
For a moment, I seemed to forget the pain I was in as I approached the officer.
“Officer, that man assaulted me, and I was saved by my brave neighbor,” I explained.
Edward, who had been struggling like a wild animal, suddenly calmed down when the officer pinned him to the ground.
He stuttered, “I–I was just trying to have a conversation with my wife when this guy suddenly butted in…”
The stench of alcohol emanating from him was overwhelming, making it clear he was drunk.
That’s when my heart skipped a beat. He was pretending to be drunker than he was!
If the police took him to the station and concluded this was just a lover’s quarrel–combined with the fact that Edward appeared heavily intoxicated–they’d likely give him a stern lecture and let him go.
It seemed Edward was becoming sneakier.
“Are you two married?” one of the officers asked.
I took a deep breath to steady my nerves before responding. “We are civil partners, but we’re getting it annulled. I’ll be filing an appeal soon.”
“I’m going to need you to come with us to the station,” the officer said.
“Okay,” I replied.
I thanked the young couple, brought Bullet back inside, locked up the house, and headed to the station, where Edward’s lawyer was already waiting.
