“Who told you that?” I replied calmly, grinning. “I didn’t know! I just saw how much you liked the drink and let you have mine too. That was me being nice!”
“Y–You’re evil!” Edith stuttered.
She turned to Edward and howled, “Is this the kind of women you like? An evil, heartless bitch?!”
“Shut up! You started all of this, and now I’m dragged into because of you! You’re a moron!” Edward shot back.
“I was doing it for you! If it weren’t for how obsessed you are with her, would I even have come up with a plan like this?!” Edith shrieked, tears and snot streaming down her face.
Edward laughed scornfully. “You stooped so low and committed a crime, and that was somehow for my sake?!”
“Yes! It was all for you!” Edith snarled.
“I just wanted her to be with you! Then maybe she wouldn’t leave you so easily! Or, better yet, if you got her pregnant, she couldn’t leave you because of the baby!
“At the very least… the two of you have been together for six years and even registered as civil partners, yet you’ve never slept with her! Are you really happy with that?!
“I was just trying to make you feel better! Why was I wrong for that?!” she demanded.
Edith was having a complete breakdown, laying bare all her intentions right in front of me.
I shivered. Her plan was far more sinister than I had imagined. She wanted me to carry Edward’s child!
“Whatever wrongs I’ve committed, they pale in comparison to the depths of depravity you Kennedys have shown, “I murmured, my voice trembling with disappointment and rage.
I stormed forward and snatched my phone back.
“Listen up, Edward. The proof of your sister’s crime is in my hands. You people are doomed!” I declared. “Unless, of course, you show up in court and cooperate. If you delay our annulment again, I swear to God, I’ll send your sister straight to jail!”
I turned to Edith and Sally.
“Please, help me get this through his thick skull,” I said, my plea genuine. “I’m not kidding around.”
Edith panicked. “Ed, please! You can’t do this to me!”
She tried to leap from her bed but howled in pain and collapsed back onto the mattress
Sally rushed to her side.
“There, there. Stay in bed. Don’t do anything rash. I’ll talk to your brother,” she said soothingly.
I studied Edith’s pale face, my questions multiplying.
What had happened to her, exactly? What could have been so serious that she was bedridden the next day?
It took a while for me to piece together the story through the grapevine.
Edith had been sexually assaulted by two thugs who took turns violating her. The trauma was devastating.

Given the heinous nature of the crime–and the Kennedys power and Influence–the two thugs were each sentenced to 15 years in prison.
But no legal punishment could ever restore what had been taken from her.
Honestly, if I could have foreseen that Edith would suffer something so horrific, I would have dumped the entire drink so no one could have taken it.
But that would have meant giving up the evidence I needed to confront Edward and force him to accept the end of our relationship.
Often, the world wasn’t black or white. Gray areas existed everywhere, making it difficult to judge what someone should or shouldn’t have done.
I could only tell myself that this was fate’s doing. I was fated to be an almost–victim of a crime, while Edith was fated to endure her own suffering.
All of this happened because of our choices and actions. When divine punishment struck, no one could truly blame anyone else.
