Soren’s gaze was soft and calm. After a while, he finally said, “I can wait. It doesn’t matter how long you’ll need. I
can wait.”
I felt a bolt course straight through my veins. I could faint.

I froze, my mouth still open. Just that interruption alone made my mind go blank.
Soren got out of the car, circled it, and came to me.
I turned mechanically toward him, my eyes wide enough to fall out of their sockets. I stared at him helplessly.
“I couldn’t bring it up before because, firstly, you were still legally tied to someone else. Secondly, I couldn’t tell if you liked me. If I made my feelings known too soon, when you weren’t interested, we might not have even stayed friends,” he said.
Soren was standing next to me, his voice as gentle as always, even as he tried to clarify himself.
“I wanted to stay as we are just enjoying the ambiguity between us like this, you know? At least I could keep seeing you from time to time. But you’re single now, and new suitors will start showing up, and I just… Well…” He shrugged and smiled, trailing off.
I understood what he meant. He was worried that if he waited too long, others might take his place before he had a chance.
I shook my head. “Don’t worry. I’m just not into starting a new relationship right now–let alone getting married.”
I had spent so much of my effort and life on Edward only to end up like this. I didn’t think I would have the courage to try again at love–not right now, at least.
I liked Soren. I admired and even adored him. But I didn’t want to start a relationship with him. For now, I enjoyed feeling attracted to him on my own without needing him to reciprocate.
It just felt safer. I wouldn’t be hurt again
Soren placed his hand on my shoulder. “I get it. You still need time to recover from all this. That’s why I’m willing to wait for as long as you need.”
I frowned in concern. “Soren, we are two very different pe=”
“I understand your apprehension, but none of those things matter to me. All that matters is how you feel me,” he interjected.
I looked down at the ground in panic. He already knew how felt about him!
He chuckled softly. “After spending so much time with you I’m sure you feel something for me. If we interact more, I’m sure it will blossom into something quite beautiful.”
