The loud “thud” I made nonetheless startled both the people Inside the escalator and Soren.
“Taylor?” he called out suddenly.
But I was so embarrassed that I quickened my pace.
As people entered the escalator, I pressed my forehead and called out to them, “Hold the door!”
I dove into the escalator, and the doors closed.
I breathed a sigh of relief. My heart was pounding, and my mind was still reeling from the shock.

I couldn’t imagine Soren’s reaction to my “near–miss.” He must think I was the clumsiest woman on Earth. Or perhaps he thought I was so taken by his confession that it had broken me, leaving me incapable of functioning properly.
I entered my office, and as I passed by the General Manager’s room, I was surprised to see someone inside.
1 peeked through the window. It was my new recruit. He was working overtime today.
He noticed me too and looked up in surprise. “I didn’t expect to see you here today, Miss Jones!”
I smiled. “That’s my line! It’s the weekend, and yet you’re here, Mr. Young. Aren’t you a hard worker?”
Jamie Young smiled as he got up from behind his desk and beckoned me to the guest couch.
“The weather isn’t ideal for outdoor activities, and I haven made enough friends since returning here. It’s a bit boring at home, so I decided to show up at work,” he explained.
“I’m a newcomer, so I have much to learn and sort through The year is almost over, and that means there’s a lot! to finish up. I gotta work hard for that!”
Jamie was 5’9“, with deep, piercing eyes. He even resembled a handsome mixed–blooded international celebrity I knew. His tanned skin, a result of being outdoors, only added to his appeal.
The HR company had introduced several candidates when I was looking for a General Manager. All of them were impressive, but Jamie stood out–he was undeniably handsome.
We worked in the fashion industry, and our people had to meet certain standards.
More importantly, I was a proud member of the “lookism” club. Edward, Soren, and even Janie were all undeniably good–looking. I just had taste.
His words pleased me.
“I can’t thank you enough for doing so much for our business. Cherry said you’ve quickly learned the ropes, and everyone’s recognized your skills and brilliance,” I replied.
Jamie smiled, looking down for a moment. “I have to thank you for giving me the space to explore and thing, Miss Jones. This freedom and flexibility is why I can do my best.”
I laughed. “Are we seriously trying to out–flatter each other now?”
“I was just stating facts, ma’am.” He rose suddenly. “I’ve been browsing through the company’s files on previous fashion shows we’ve participated in. I have some questions. Will you be free in the afternoon to answer them?”

Just then, my phone beeped. It was from Soren.
Soren: [Is your forehead okay? Are you hurt?]
My chest tightened. Now was not the time to answer him!
I set my phone down and replied to Jamie, “Yes, I’ll be free. We can discuss any questions you
have.”
I was thinking about Medhelanon’s fashion show too. It felt reassuring to know he was thinking about the same thing.
“Great. Let’s get this cleared up later this afternoon,” he declared and placed a stack of documents on the coffee table.
