Chapter 201
Chapter 201
When we were almost finished, I heard someone call out, “Miss Jones! Fancy seeing you here!”
I looked up, stunned. It was Soren’s best friend, Richard!
“Mr. Rockefeller, hello!” I said, rising to greet him.
He nodded. “Hello to you too.”
Richard then glanced at the man sitting opposite me.
“This is my newly hired General Manager, Jamie Young,” quickly introduced. “Mr. Young, this is Richard Rockefeller of Rockefeller Media. He’s one of the city’s elites. Who knows, we might work with him one day.”
Jamie stood and extended his hand. “Pleased to meet you, Mr. Rockefeller!”
Richard shook his hand. “Likewise!”
He turned back to me. “It’s the weekend today, so why arent you hanging out with Soren? It’s the first snow of the year. People are in a pretty festive mood.”
I knew exactly what he meant. The snow had blanketed the city in white, and people were out enjoying it, pictures, playing, and simply reveling in the change of season.
“We met earlier today, but I have things to work on now, that’s why,” I answered candidly.
“Oooh. So y’all have already met,” he said, grinning widely.
He then glanced at Jamie. “Alright, you guys go ahead. I’m off! Bye, Mr. Young!”
He waved and turned to leave.
As he walked away, I felt a strange mixture of emotions.

Part of me wondered if Soren might feel a little jealous. Another part worried he would think I was playing games

“Miss Jones? Are you done with your meal?” Jamie’s voice snapped me out of my thoughts.
“Oh, right! Yes, I’m done! Bill, please!” I waved over to the waitress.
The young woman gave me a surprising response. “Mr. Rockefeller already paid for your meal, ma’a
1 was stunned. “Say what?! He did?”
“Yeap. Would you like a receipt?” she asked with a smile.
I shook my head, still in disbelief. “No, I’m good”
Man, I felt a little awkward now. “I was supposed to treat you, but Mr. Rockefeller beat me to it. Sorry, I’ll treat you again next time.”
“Hub, he’s quite the generous fellow!” Jamie said, sounding impressed.
“Oh, very,” I replied mechanically.
I knew what Richard was doing–he was setting me up to call Soren
Since I didn’t have Richard’s number, I couldn’t thank him directly. The only way to reach him was through Soren,

which meant I’d have to admit that I had gone out to dinner with my colleague.
Richard had me comered in this little chess game.
1 bade Jamie goodbye, and we went to our separate cars.
Jamie drove off, but I stayed in mine for a moment, watching the snowflakes drift across my windshield.
I remembered Soren’s invitation to watch the snow together, and I debated with myself about what to do.
After a brief hesitation, I decided to call him.
