Chapter 206
The centennial was happening soon. I had sent the dresses designed to the faculty a day before the event and was now heading to the airport–Amanda was arriving today.
What I didn’t expect was seeing Soren at the airport!
He was wearing a large black trench coat, making him look even more refined. As he strode gallantly through the arrival gate, several young women stopped in their tracks, staring at him like a pack of fangirls.
Unfortunately, I was one of them too.
I even blinked a few times to make sure I wasn’t hallucinating
Soren seemed surprised to see me as well. His solemn, serious expression melted away into gentleness as soon as he noticed me.
Michael–who was pushing the luggage trolley beside him–spoke up in surprise. “I didn’t expect to see you here, Miss Jones! Did you come because you knew Mr. Kenway was returning to the city today?”
I opened my mouth–then immediately realized I had no idea how to answer.
If I said no, it would be embarrassing for Soren. But if I said yes, then my poor roommate would be abandoned at the airport while I followed them home!
Soren saw how
“Yes,”
stuck I was and helped me out. “What a coincidence! Were you here to receive someone?”
,” I replied bashfully, blushing. “My old roommate is coming for the centennial too. I didn’t expect to see you.
Sensing where this was going, Michael walked off with the luggage and left us alone.
Soren smiled. “I was on a business trip the night before yesterday. I had to rush home precisely because of the
centennial.”
“Man, you have it tough, going back and forth like that.”
“It is, not gonna lie. I didn’t get to sleep last night, but at least I finished what I had to do and managed to catch my flight back,” he said, his voice laced with fatigue.
I could see faint blood streaks in his eyes and the dark circles beneath them. A pang of sympathy hit me. Before I could even comfort him, though, he smiled dotingly. “Well, seeing you here–even if it was just a coincidence has already dispelled quite a lot of my fatigue”
I grinned. “I know, right? I thought I was mistaking someone else for you!”
Soren held my gaze and sighed half–jokingly. “For a moment, I thought you were here for me. I thought maybe you’d made your decision.”
My heart raced wildly. I quickly avoided his gaze as warmth spread across my cheeks. I felt like spring had already arrived right in my chest.
An airport announcement snapped me out of my thoughts. Um, you should go home and rest. See you tomorrow.” “I will come for you tomorrow.”
“Right.” A thought occurred to me. “Ali, actually–my friend is staying at my place, and we’re going to the National Academy together tomorrow. So maybe you don’t have to pick me up anymore.”

“No problem. Your friend can just hop in too, right?” he re

It wouldn’t be surprising if someone from the elite class d
“No, no. I’m happy to help. See you tomorrow.”
Well, if he said so….
“Right.”
Soren started walking away but suddenly turned back.
At the same time, I instinctively turned to glance at him to
Still, I had quick reflexes.
“What’s the matter?” I asked.
