That remark had stayed in my head rent–free all night.
I didn’t remember when he sent me home. I didn’t remember what we said before parting ways. My brain had. turned to mush because of what Soren said, and it had completely ceased to function.
Ever since he confessed his feelings, Soren hadn’t bothered to hide them anymore. He texted and called me whenever he had a spare moment.
He would ask if my grandmother was getting better. Or if 1‘ eaten yet. Sometimes, he’d bring up his work–like when he sealed a business deal or made a breakthrough in his research
When I was at the car repair shop after my car was fixed, I called Soren. Since his driver had helped me get it to the mechanic that evening, I figured I should at least let him know everything was fine now.
“Glad to hear it. The mechanics gave your car a full treatment, didn’t they? So it should hold up just fine for the time being,” he replied. “But when I have time, I’ll order a car for you.”
He made buying a car sound as easy as snapping his fingers for a butler!
“Why?! My car is running just fine!” I protested.
“It is, but well… The new car is a statement about our evolving relationship,” he said. “A token of love, to be exact.
His choice of words stunned me, “Are you trippin‘?! Since when are we an item or in love?!”
“It’s just a matter of time. I happen to think it’s fine to prepare for the inevitable. By the time the car is done and presented to you, we’ll already be together.”
I had to tell myself to focus! I was driving–I needed to stay calm.
“What if that doesn’t happen?” I shot back.
“Now that… is impossible.”
I bit my lip. I wanted to argue, but I couldn’t help feeling touched.
Soren was a master at balancing his soft–spoken, gentlemanly demeanor with a commanding aura of dominance and authority. He could sound kind and imposing at the same time–without it ever becoming grating to me.
After a brief silence, I decided to stop overthinking the nature of our relationship and get back to the real topic of this conversation. “You don’t have to order a car for me. If I want one, I can buy my own in a few years.”
“I might not want to wait that long.”
Damn it, Soren always knew how to steer the conversation back in his favor!
“When we’re finally–officially–together, I might ride in your car sometimes. Out of security concerns, it’s better to replace it sooner,” he said matter–of–factly.
So that’s what he was getting at all along?
He’d told me before that all of his cars W

Was this his way of preparing for the future? Was he thinking about ordering a specially modified car so he could safely ride in it one day?
I didn’t even know how to respond to that. I didn’t know jack about cars! I wouldn’t even know what modifications

“We’ll cross that bridge when we get there,” I said hesitantly.
“You bet. It’s not urgent, after all. Don’t worry about it! When the car is ready, it’ll be yours to drive wherever you
want.”
