Solell sounded genuinely happy, “Taylor, I’m going to be back in Metropolis tomorrow. When would you be available? I’ll bring my friend over to your place.”
My mind was consumed with thoughts of how severe my inities were and whether they’d affect my work.
After a moment’s hesitation, 1 asked, “Does your friend need formalwear soon?”
“Not exactly. She just loves your style. What’s the matter? Are you busy lately?”
“Um… I actually have time, but I injured my knees, and I probably won’t be able to move around much for the next few days. I’m not sure I can meet your friend’s deadline,” replied
Soleil sounded shocked. “You injured both knees? Is it serious?”
“1 fell on them. I’m on my way back to the city now, but I’ll only know how bad it is once I get to the hospital.”
“Are you alone?” she asked.
“My colleagues are with me.”
“Does Ren know about this?” she pressed.
The question made me feel a pang of sadness.
I had considered calling Soren when I couldn’t find a ride back into the city, but we hadn’t spoken since he hung up angrily on me that morning.
I had spent most of the afternoon indoors after injuring my knees, but I couldn’t bring myself to tell him about it.
Now, Soleil had mentioned him…
I didn’t want to seem “pitiful” or make Soren feel heartbroken, so I planned to brush off the topic.
“Your brother’s really busy, so I don’t think it’s right to trouble him. Please don’t-”
Before I could finish, Soleil interrupted, “It’s his duty to take care of his girlfriend, no matter how busy he is! I’m calling him!”
“Wait, Sol! Don’t-“I tried to stop her urgently, but it was too late.
When she hung up, I quickly dialed again, but her phone was already engaged.
Damn, she was fast!
I felt a wave of nervousness and clutched my phone, my thoughts in a swirl.
Honestly, I didn’t want to trouble Soren. I hadn’t even repaid him for helping with my grandmother’s hospitalization. If I bothered him now….
We weren’t even an official couple yet, so he wasn’t obligated to take care of me or my family.
But if he refused to help me because of what happened this morning, it would be so awkward–embarrassing even.
It felt like I was stuck between a rock and a hard place, and the best solution seemed to be for him not to know about my injuries.
But, it was too late….
My phone rang suddenly, and my heart raced when I saw who was calling.
Chapter 254:7
After a few moments of silent composure, I answered. “Heo?”
“What happened? Solell told me you hurt yourself.” Soren voice was full of worry, his panic clear.
There was no trace of the frustration he’d shown earlier that morning.
“Umm… I fell during my hike this morning,” I said uncertainly.
“And you’re only getting it looked at now?” His voice rose in concern.
I felt like a child being scolded by a parent. “I thought it wasn’t serious, but It’s swelling more, so…
Soren fell silent for a moment. I couldn’t tell if he was angry or speechless, but after a few beats, he asked, Where are you now?”
“We just left the mountains. We’re on the highway heading back to the city.”
“I’ll come pick you up. Keep in touch,” he said firmly, hanging up before I could protest.
But even if I had protested, I wouldn’t have dared. After all, no one could stand up to him when he was angry.
I knew he’d only get angrier if I kept rejecting his offer, and I’d look like a hypocrite if I did.
