My cheeks turned red, and I looked away.
He didn’t press the issue. “So, whose car? I’m fine with either.”
It took me a moment, but then I recalled the problem.
“My car… Uh, it’s… busted,” I explained, feeling embarrassed. “It won’t start. I was about to call a repair shop when you called.”
“Oh? So I swooped in at just the right time!” he replied with a smile.
He did.
Soren waved at his driver, who immediately got out of the car. “Miss Jones‘ car is having some issues. Please help her with it.”
He tilted his chin toward me. “Keys, please.”
“Um, you don’t have to-“I began hesitantly.
“It’s alright, Miss Jones. I’ll wait for the repair shop with your car,” the driver said kindly, extending his hand.
I dropped my keys into his palm.
Soren put his arm around my shoulder and guided me toward his Audi. “Come on, let’s get in. The cold’s got you snotting out!”
My heart skipped a beat. I couldn’t help but glance at his fingers. They were so delicate, sculpted–beautiful. The warmth in my chest intensified. I snapped out of my daze and wiped my nose. “Hey! There’s no snot!”
He laughed. “Do you believe everything I say?”
I shot him a mock glare and said nothing.
The inside of his car was as warm as spring. My muscles relaxed, basking in the inviting heat.
He fastened his seatbelt and asked for the address. I typed it into the GPS.
“Okay. Not great timing,” I muttered, frowning. “There’s traffic congestion near the area. It’ll take 40 minutes to get there. Should we go somewhere closer?”
Soren glanced at the GPS and turned the steering wheel with flair. “Nope. Let’s go there.”
I stared at him in surprise.
And then, I got it.
He insisted on eating there because it was the place where had dined with Jamie. He had to visit the same spot to “balance it out,” right?
I decided to go along with it..
At some point during the ride, he asked, “Oh, I forgot to tell you. I spoke with the director of the Metropolitan

I stared at him, delight and gratitude flooding me. I was deeply moved.

“Yeah. I will.“.
Soren kept his eyes on the road. I could see a smile tugging at his lips.
