Mark’s fingers tightened slightly around his glass, his silence a little heavier now.
Adrian continued, “Honestly, I’ve always believed you’re the most capable among us shareholders. Sure, Ms. Greene holds the largest stake, but she’s young and impulsive. If you ask me, you’d be a much better fit to run Miracle Youth”
Mark’s gaze sharpened. “What are you getting at?”
“I heard you’ve been negotiating with EverThriving Enterprise’s CEO, but you haven’t been able to close the deal. Since Ms. Greene is so competent, surely she can make it happen, don’t you think?” Adrian said in a meaningful tone.
Mark was silent for a long moment before finally saying, “I’ll think about it.”
That evening, just as Phoebe arrived at her villa in the Northern District after work, she found Declan waiting at her door. Standing tall, he looked down at her, his eyes burning with anger. “Phoebe, enough with the drama. Living in another man’s house every night is just ridiculous for a married woman. Do you even care about the reputation of the Greene and Richardson families?”
Phoebe let out a cold laugh and retorted, “And you think you have the right to lecture me? When you were dating Jennifer in our marital home, did you ever stop to think about either family’s reputation?”
Declan’s expression darkened with impatience. “I already told you–nothing happened between me and Jennie.”
“Whether it did or didn’t is none of my business. We’re getting divorced anyway.”
“I tore up the divorce papers. I’ll pretend you were just talking nonsense in the heat of the moment. Come home with me, and we’ll act like none of this ever happened.”
Phoebe asked with a frown, “Declan, why are you so hell–bent on not getting divorced? Did you fall in love with me?”
Declan’s expression turned ice–cold. With a mocking smirk, he asked, “You really think that’s possible?”
She replied, “Since it’s not, stop wasting my time. I’m still young–I’d rather leave you now and move on.”
The moment she said that, an unsettling chill settled around Declan. His jaw tightened as he asked, “Move on? With someone else?”
“What else do you think?” Phoebe looked at him indifferently and continued, “Sticking around with you feels like being a widow. I’d rather go after my own happiness.”
A fire ignited inside Declan–irrational, uncontrollable. He knew he didn’t love Phoebe, yet she always succeeded in getting under his skin.
His face turned gloomy, and his voice became low and sharp. “Fine. I’ll divorce you–if you compensate me for the years I wasted on you.”
Phoebe stared at him, utterly speechless.
Seeing the shock and disgust on her face, Declan sneered, “15 million dollars is enough. Pay me, and I’ll sign the divorce papers.”
Phoebe was silent for a few seconds before meeting his gaze. “You swear that if I give you the money, you’ll divorce me?”
He nodded. “Yeah, but you can’t use my money.”

Over the years, Phoebe had lived in his place, and when they got married, he had even given her a limitless black card, though not once had she swiped it to buy anything.
For his birthdays, the gifts she gave were always handmade. Thus, Declan was sure she didn’t have so much money.
Phoebe stayed quiet for a few seconds and then nodded. “Alright, deal.”
Declan added, “I’ll give you a week. If you can’t come up with the money in time, don’t ever bring up divorce again.”
Phoebe narrowed her eyes and protested, “Wait, don’t you think this is a little excessive?”
Declan let out a cold chuckle and said, “You’re the one making a fuss about getting divorced. Now I’m giving you a chance, and you’re hesitating? Phoebe, I’m starting to think you’re just playing hard to get.”
Phoebe rolled her eyes and snapped, “Fine, one week. Now get the hell out of my way.”
Seeing the clear impatience in her eyes, Declan added, “Until we’re officially divorced, you’re moving back to live with me.”
“Declan, don’t go too far,” Phoebe said through gritted teeth.
