Chapter 338
I took a spot under the shade of a tree, glanced at my watch, and called out, “Five minutes left.”
Cameron crouched near Harry. “What are we gonna do? I don’t have the money for your treatment. This bitch is the only-”
“We should have never raised her!” Harry snarled, punching the grass.
Cameron’s sad eyes briefly turned red as she glanced at my mother and grandfather’s graves. “Then what? Are we really going to kneel in front of… them?!”
Harry said nothing. His fist trembled.
“One minute,” I reminded them, shifting my stance.
Cameron turned to me, thinking I was about to leave. “Wait!”
She tugged on Harry’s arm. “Just… just agree to it, okay? We’re the living. They’re dead. There’s nothing embarrassing about kneeling to two slabs of stone!”
Harry glared at her, his eyes bloodshot. “This is all your fault! If you hadn’t agreed to Maddison’s demand to marry Edward, we wouldn’t be here!”
He really thought this was revenge for that? He had no idea how much I hated them.
This was the culmination of years of resentment–far greater than whatever anger Maddison’s pathetic little ploy had stirred.
Cameron burst into tears. “How can you blame me?! Maddie couldn’t have done anything if Edward himself hadn’t agreed to it! I was just trying to grant my daughter her last wish!”
“Did you try asking the Kennedys for help? We’re friends, aren’t we? So why the hell isn’t Edward doing jackshit for me now?!” Harry demanded.
Cameron choked back her tears and snarled, “Those jackasses aren’t gonna help either! I asked twice, and they didn’t even bother showing up in person!”
The hope in Harry’s face died.
“Edith’s caught up in some incriminating mess! Edward’s old disease flared up again, and he’s getting treatment. His blood type is so rare he might never recover!” Cameron snapped. “That might be why Sally won’t see me at all!

Oh. So the Kennedys and the Joneses were no longer friends
How the tables had turned. A few months ago, both families had been inseparable. Cameron had even treated Edward better than her own son.
But now? Ha! God really was watching.
“Come on.” I waved to the Uber driver. “Let’s go.”
“Stop!” Cameron cried.
“What? You won’t agree to my proposal, and now I’m not allowed to leave?!” I snapped.
Cameron yanked on Harry’s arm. “We agree!”
My grin widened. “I didn’t hear him say it, though.”

Harry couldn’t bring himself to say it. He was hoping Cameron’s word would be enough. But I wanted to hear it from him.
Cameron pinched his arm. “Damn it, old man! The more you drag this out, the worse you get!”
Harry had been hanging his head, but her urging only provoked the fury simmering beneath the surface. He glared at her so hard she flinched.
Finally, he answered, reluctant and low, “I agree…”
