“What did you say?” I asked loudly, despite having heard him the first time.
Harry shot me a look that could kill. “Don’t you dare!”
“We’re leaving, then.”
“We agree! We agree to this proposal! I’ll even do it with him!” Cameron cried out. Any trace of her arrogance had
vanished.
I sighed. “If you’d just agreed to it sooner, we’d be on our way back to the city by now.”
I pulled out my phone. “Well, let’s get this started.”
“Mom? Grandpa?” I called out to their graves. “Harry and Cameron are here to repent and apologize for what they did. I’m sorry it took me so long to make this happen… but it’s happening now. I hope this brings both of you some peace.”

Cameron hesitated for a moment before kneeling before the graves. She helped Harry to his knees.
Harry refused to look at what lay before him.
“Repent! Apologize, now!” I urged coldly, hate swelling in my chest.
Harry hung his head so low his back nearly buckled under the weight.
“I said, repent. Or none of this counts as fulfilling your end of the bargain,” I reminded him.
In the silence that followed, Harry finally spoke, his voice low. “Sandra, I’m sorry.”
A lump formed in my throat, and tears streamed down my cheeks.
I remembered the way she had looked at me in her final moments. As her life slipped away, she had wept. Though she couldn’t speak, I understood what she must have felt resentment, regret, and the anguish of leaving me behind.
Was my mother watching? Could she see what I had become? I could protect myself now. I could protect my grandmother. I had even brought them here to do this. I had avenged my father and grandfather.
Tears blurred my vision.
When my thoughts returned to the present, I noticed Cameron helping Harry to his feet.
“Wait a minute! The time isn’t up yet!” I said.
Cameron forced her rage down. “We did what you wanted us to do! You know your father can’t stay in this position for too long! This is too much. What if he dies?”
“He just told me he isn’t going to die anytime soon. He said so himself,” I retorted.
“Taylor!”
“You people abused me for over a decade! The fact that I’m even willing to pay for his expensive treatment makes me a far better person than any of you could ever be! Don’t try to paint this as anything else!” I snapped.
“If you can’t even apologize for the pain and injustice you’ve caused, then it’s only fitting that you die without anyone to help you!“.
