“And yet, things haven’t changed, even after we’ve been together. You won’t move into my place. You wouldn’t accept a car until I forced you into it. You won’t let me help with anything concerning the Joneses or ** You don’t even tell me what you’re up to, where you’re going.”
Soren’s gaze locked onto mine. “What do you think all of this makes me feel?”
Kennedys.
If I had thought I hadn’t done anything wrong, that belief evaporated as I listened to him list his grievances.
Guilt began to settle over me. I even wanted to explain myself. “Listen, Soren, I-”
He raised his hand. “I know, I know. You don’t want to trouble me. You don’t want me to be bogged down by it all. But I knew about your problems before we were officially together. If any of this bothered me, why would I have still wanted to be your boyfriend?
“You push me away and refuse to accept any help or goodwill from me. You refuse to let me into your world, your life. It makes me feel like you’re trying to keep things at a distance, making it easier to walk away whenever you want. Not involving me in your life makes it so much simpler to exit without a second thought.”
His voice dropped low, his eyes darkening. “How am I supposed to feel about that, Tay?”
I was stunned. I didn’t know what to say.
A few moments of silence passed before I finally spoke, my voice soft. “You should tell me upfront if you’re upset instead of giving me the silent treatment. I can apologize if I’ve done something wrong.”
I was the type to confront issues head–on rather than avoid them.
“Well, I did drink a bit too much last night. A bad mood can do that to you,” he said with a sigh.
“But I’m sure Michael informed you that I called before you went to drink with your clients.”
He fell silent for a moment, then replied, a bit indignantly, ‘I was still mad at the time, so I didn’t feel like returning your call. I… I was waiting to see if you’d call again. But you didn’t, so I just kept drinking.”
I was a little taken aback. What? He had purposely avoided calling me back because he wanted to see if I would call him? And when I didn’t, his mood soured further?
“You… are surprisingly juvenile, Soren!” I remarked.
“That’s because I’m young at heart,” he said, shamelessly defending himself.
I couldn’t even respond to that.
“I woke up with a hangover today, but I felt relieved when I saw your message. I thought you’d finally realized your mistake, so I called you. But then you told me you wouldn’t visit because something else came up. I just…”
“You got upset again?” I finished.
He took a sip of water instead of answering.
I chuckled helplessly. “Okay, so you’re self–aware.”
He really was as sensitive as a woman! He’d cling to the smallest detail and react like it was the end of the world!
But then again, maybe it was all this loss he was feeling because he’d never been defied in his life. He’d lived like a prince, always the center of attention.
I felt kind of honored to be the first person to ignore and defy him.

Chapter 342
“It’s fine. Water under the bridge,” Soren said, probably feeling embarrassed. “What I really want to know is… what are your real thoughts?”
“My thoughts? On what?” I asked.
