Soren stared at me in stunned silence. “Wait, you don’t actually get what I’ve been alluding to this whole time?”
A thought leaped into my head, and I reeled. He wanted me to stop keeping my distance. He wanted to be a part of my life–to help and support me.
But… I just…
Soren lowered his gaze. “I see. I’m still not good enough for you.”
“No, that’s not it!” I blurted, guilt rising in my chest.
Soren had been so kind to me—I should be more open to him!
But I just couldn’t. There were so many problems on my end that I couldn’t do it!
In the end, I made a concession.
“Okay, I’ll always tell you what I’m facing. But there are some things you really shouldn’t intervene in,” I said. ” I’ll ask for help if I can’t handle it. Is that okay?”
Soren chuckled darkly. “I guess a little tantrum works in my favor.”
“It’s weird hearing you say that.”
“Why?”
“Because you have all the power and influence. It’s just strange to hear you say that!”
“Those things didn’t help me get a girl to listen,” he retorted.
I couldn’t say a word. He always knew how to flirt in a way that was neither too reserved nor too forward. It made me feel both happy and self–conscious. He loved me too much, and it was a lot of pressure!
I took a drink of water to calm myself. He watched me and asked, “So, what happened?”
“Harry got out of prison through compassionate release,” explained.
Soren frowned. “Is it fatal?”
I shook my head. “It’s not that bad, but he’s always had the usual problems–hypertension, diabetes… and now, he has several comorbidities. He can barely walk.”
“You have to pay for his treatment?”
I nodded and told him what had happened today.
I thought he’d compliment me for what I did. I’d definitely give myself credit for being smart.
But instead, his expression darkened. “Why did you do that? You against all three of them? What would’ve happened if they attacked you together?!”
“I know that! That’s why I didn’t let them into my car. I even got their Uber driver to act as my last–minute bodyguard. He was a stand–up guy,” I answered.
“Oh, I bet you think you were incredibly clever for doing all this,” he remarked.
I did think so? I was sure Cameron and the others wouldn‘(attack me. After all, they needed me for money. I had only hired the driver for that 0.01% chance they might attack,

Chapter 343
“You could’ve told me while I was calling you! But you hung up without saying a word!” Soren berated me. “Even if you didn’t want me to intervene, you could have let me wait at the foot of the hill. I could’ve helped as soon as you needed me!”
I flinched away from him slightly. “W–Why are you mad? I’m fine now, aren’t I?”
He pressed his lips together, silent.
Honestly, I’d been on edge since we met. He had always been so gentle and calm, but today, seeing him frown so much and look so grim–it was freaking me out.
I knew he was still upset about the distance I had put between us.
