Chapter 354
The police had formed a welcome suite to greet the future scions of the Kenways and the Kennedys.
Soren and I made our statements first.
When we finished and exited the interrogation room, Soren’s lawyer stepped forward. “Mr. Kenway, the Kennedys hope to resolve this matter financially, without involving the law-”
He frowned. “Do I look like someone who can be bought?”
The lawyer hesitated, awkward. “U–Understood. I’ll handle it.”
The chief invited Soren to his office, but Soren declined, citing the late hour.
We were about to leave when we heard a commotion in the distance.
“I did nothing wrong! I wanted to expose how ugly she really is! I want her life ruined! You cowards are afraid of the Kenways?! Well, I’m not!”
Edith was hysterical again. Despite Sally’s efforts to comfort her, she wouldn’t calm down.
I glanced at Soren. I couldn’t even describe how it felt to be here, hearing this.
He didn’t seem affected at all. He simply wrapped his arm around my waist. “Let’s go.”
“Taylor!” Edward called from behind.
I stopped.
He caught up with me and asked, “Can we talk?”
“No,” I replied. “I got your memo from just your phone call ”
He watched Soren’s arm around my waist, brooding silently as if humiliated.
“Edith was just a little girl when we were together. She used to be your little sister! Did any of that matter to you?
“She’s been through so much. The doctor told her it would be difficult for her to get pregnant. What you saw was just the result of psychological trauma and pain!
“We’ve already censured her for what she did. So can you please just—”
“Kennedy,” Soren interrupted with a faint smile. “I think you’ve made a mistake. The victim here is me, not her. I’m the one pressing charges, not her.”
Edward bit his lip. “Why is the all–powerful Kenway family ganging up on a little girl like her? Isn’t bullying her beneath you?”
I was stunned. Edward was seriously trying to guilt–trip Soren!
I sneered. “Oh, if that’s the case, then why did Edith bully me, when she’s the one more powerful than I am? I’ve had a worse life than she ever did.”
At least Edith had been the princess of her family. I had been nothing but a collection of misery and tragedy.
“You’ve got a backer now,” Edward shot back.

Edward fell silent.
“You really deserve losing Taylor, you know that? Because you can’t force someone with a conscien to stoop to the level of those who don’t.
“I don’t want to be presumptuous, but judging by the way you people handle these things, the Kennedys‘ future looks bleak,” Soren commented.
With that, he turned and led me away.
Lisbeth called Soren again once we were in the car.
Based on his responses, I was sure she was telling him to go home soon.
Then I noticed him putting distance between us while on the call. It was as if he were avoiding me.
