“Ah!” Jennifer covered her face in disbelief, gritting her teeth as she glared at Phoebe. “How dare you hit me!”
Before she could finish speaking, Phoebe slapped her again. “Jennifer, I could not be bothered to deal with your little tricks before. Looks like you thought I was afraid of you.”
Jennifer was so furious she nearly lost her mind. She never expected this wretched woman to slap her twice in a row.
She could not swallow her anger.
Jennifer charged at Phoebe, trying to hit her back, but Phoebe grabbed her wrist in one swift motion and shoved her backward. Jennifer’s back slammed hard against the kitchen counter, sending a sharp pain through her body. She could not help but cry out in pain.
Phoebe stared at her coldly, her gaze devoid of warmth. “Looks like those two slaps were not enough to wake you up.”
Seeing Phoebe approaching her, Jennifer bit her lower lip. She knew she was no match for Phoebe, and fear flashed in her
eyes.
Just as Phoebe stopped in front of her, the kitchen door was suddenly pushed open.
Jennifer spotted Declan standing at the doorway, and a glimmer of hope appeared in her eyes. “Deck, help me! I accidentally knocked over the custard pudding that Pheebs made, and she slapped me twice. She still will not let me go!”
Phoebe glanced at Jennifer’s tearful expression and sneered. Without hesitation, she raised her hand and slapped Jennifer twice more, causing her face to swell instantly.
Phoebe arched a brow. “Go on, and you can continue complaining now.”
Jennifer’s eyes
flashed with hatred. She wished she could kill Phoebe on the spot. “Deck, I really did not mean to. I just wanted to help Pheebs.”
Phoebe looked at her coldly. “If you keep whining in that annoying voice, I might not be able to stop myself from slapping you again.”
Jennifer was momentarily stunned.
Standing at the doorway, Declan frowned and said coldly, “Phoebe, Jennie is your sister. Do not take things too far.”
Phoebe cast him an indifferent glance, her expression completely devoid of warmth. “If you cannot keep her in check, I will do something even worse next time.”
With that, she turned and walked out of the kitchen.
As Phoebe passed by Declan, he suddenly grabbed her hand.
She frowned and was about to shake him off when he spoke in a cold voice. “Your hand is injured. Why did you not say anything?”
Phoebe lowered her eyes and glanced at the burn blisters on her arm.
She looked completely unconcerned. “It has nothing to do with you.”
“Go sit on the couch. Where is the first–aid kit?” Declan asked.
Phoebe pulled her hand away and looked at him impatiently. “Instead of worrying about me, you should be more concerned about Jennifer.”

With that, she turned and left without hesitation.
Declan watched her retreating figure, his eyes deep and cold.
He could sense that even though Phoebe had agreed to take care of him, she had no intention of reconciling with him.
She still wanted a divorce.
“Deck, Pheebs has gone too far.” Jennifer’s pitiful voice sounded beside him.
Declan turned around and saw her looking at him with teary eyes, full of grievance.
Her face was swollen on both sides, making her look anything but pitiful. If anything, it was slightly comical.
Declan’s eyes darkened as he stared at Jennifer. “What really happened?”
By now, he had a pretty good grasp of Phoebe’s personality. As long as no one provoked her first, she would not start trouble. Seeing that Declan was not taking her side right away, Jennifer felt even more aggrieved. “Deck, I really just wanted to help Pheebs carry the custard pudding. I did not mean to knock it over, but she thought I did it on purpose and hit me.
