Richard’s fishing buddies were calling him again, but he didn’t go. To him, fishing without Yvonne was pointless. In fact, he feared being ridiculed again, especially as he aged and cared more about self–esteem.

He wandered around for a while and finally went back disappointedly. Not long after he returned, the butler hurriedly found him and said something.

Upon hearing this, Richard paused for a moment in thought before the realization dawned on him it was his eldest son and daughter–in–law.
He had been so content lately that his children had slipped his mind. Feeling bored, he assumed Yvonne was asleep and wouldn’t play, so he let the couple inside.
Richard thought they were there to invite him back to the Adler residence since it was already December. So, before they could even speak, he went to the point. “If you’re here to ask me to go back, you can leave after you finish your coffee”
Richard could think of no other reason for the two previous visits than this.
Gavyn tried to say something but stopped and looked embarrassed when he heard his father’s words. Carol seemed even more unnatural
Gavyn cleared his throat awkwardly and replied. “No, your happiness is all that matters to us.”
Richard hummed softly, his face blank, a sense of unease growing as he waited for their response. ‘So there must be something here.
Despite the time apart and unusual circumstances, Gavyn still longed to connect with his father. After all, there was no grudge between themn.
Richard was getting old, and since they were not living together, Gavyn knew he should spend more time with him while there was still a chance So instead of rushing into his reason for visiting, he decided to chat with his father casually.
Carol, sining next to him, grew impatient as their conversation dragged on. The old man’s numerous uncertainties made her doubt whether he might send them away,
She found it more urgent to get down to the point and secretly kicked her husband under the table, assuming Richard couldn’t see her.
The first few times…….
brushed it off and kept talking about how much he cared about Richard. Then came the second time and the third time.
- Gavyn wasn’t in a hurry, but Richard was the first to break the silence. He met the other mari’s gaze, “Tell me,” he began, his tone implying he had aiready sensed the tension between the two, “what brings you here today?”
Carol gave an awkward laugh. “Well, we came to see you today for Laura’s engagement with the Jill family.” They only had one daughter, so her marriage was a significant event and Richard had to attend the engagement party in two days.
Richard was a formidable figure, and his presence would demonstrate the Adler family’s begard for Laura, which would in turn cam her more respect from the groom’s family.
Attending his granddaughter’s engagement ceremony Richard’s duty, and Gavyn and Carol had planned on it all along
But no one could have foreseen this turn of events. Although Richard had always enjoyed spending time with Laura at the Adler residence, to their surprise, the engagement was just a few days away, and there was no sign of him, let alone him coming back to stay
This made Gavyn and Carol anxious, and after a whole night of discussion yesterday, they decided to come to talk to Richard in person today.
Despite his disappointment with his children–in–law and his clear favoritism towards Stefan, Richard couldn’t possibly miss his granddaughter’s engagement party.
They were right. Richard hadn’t mentioned it because he had simply forgotten. The butler reminded him last month, but he was too busy at the time to commit it to niemory.
Whale he treated all his grandchildren fairly, he did have a soft spot for Yvonne. This might be because his other grandchildren were raised by their parents and, being intimidated by him in their younger years, weren’t as close to him,
He was more fond of Yvonne, having watched her grow up, but he would still attend Laura’s engagritjent party
He nodded. “I know. I was a little busy a while ago and forgot. I’ll be there” The butler knew everything about the hotel, so there was no need to ask.

The couple exchanged hesitant glances after he finished, unsure of what to say next.
“Just say it.” Richard was impatient.
Gavyn suggested. “Dad, why don’t you come back and stay for a few days, and then we’ll set off with Laura on the day of the engagement?”
He also wanted to make use of this opportunity to spend more time with his father. This feeling never crossed his mind when they
y used to live together, but now, having to navigate layers of security just to see his own father, he couldn’t help but feel a growing sense of bitterness and regret.
Richard’s frown deepened as he refused without hesitation. “I won’t go back. I go directly there. His tone was firm, silencing his son’s attempts at persuasion.
After achieving her goal, Carol gently tugged his hand and silently signaled that they could go.
Helpless, Gavyn could only say goodbye.
Seeing Gavyn’s sadness as they left the Adler family estate, Carol reassured him, “Don’t worry. Your father has a whole team tending to his every need. Haven’t you noticed how much healthier he looks? His complexion is far better than before. There’s nothing to worry about.”
Gavyn still frowned. That might be true, but………….
His wife’s voice chimed in. “But what? He’s already quite elderly. If he’s happy where he is, let him be. Don’t forget, he was still sharp enough to butmaneuver the Jones family and acquire most of their assets just two days ago.”
He stopped talking glanced back at the house, and left.
