At the time, I was Edward’s girlfriend, yet he completely ignored me.
And now, the same thing was happening again.
The only question was whether Candy would be as “fortunate” as Maddisoti and end up marrying the man she admired.
“I’m fine. Thank you for your concern, Miss Frieze. And thank you for the coat last night,” Soren said politely.
Candy smiled. “There’s no need to thank me, Soren. It’s just a piece of clothing.”
As she spoke, her gaze shifted toward me, her smile carrying a subtle challenge and disdain–something only I could perceive.
Last night, I transferred 3,900 dollars to her after adding her to my contacts, but she refused to accept it and sent the money back.
Clearly, she viewed her kindness as being for Soren, not for me, and had no interest in accepting my money.
After smiling, she turned to greet me. “Taylor, you’re here too…”
I returned her smile. “Yes, I came to visit Mr. Kenway as well.”
William looked slightly surprised. “You two know each other?”
“Taylor and I are more than just acquaintances, Grandpa William. We were in the same academy and the same faculty.
“Taylor was quite the sensation in our faculty back then… Sorry, she was the talk of the entire academy, actually.“/
William’s expression shifted to one of intrigue, and he gestured for everyone to sit down.
The service staff brought in beverages.
Candy looked at me and deliberately asked, “Isn’t that right Taylor? You were beautiful and outstanding in every way, admired by countless guys. Unfortunately, you started dating Mr. Kennedy as soon as you entered the academy, breaking so many hearts.”
I sneered inwardly, unsurprised by Candy’s little stunt.
Literally everyone in the city knew about my past with Edward over the last few months.
Candy had decided to stir things up again in front of William, just when things had started to settle and Soren and I were officially in a relationship.
I paused for a moment, thinking, before replying in a calm, self–deprecating tone, “I was young and naive back then, thinking I had found someone who truly loved me as much as I loved him. Yet, I ended up betrayed so badly that I became quite the laughingstock.”
I didn’t bother defending myself. There was nothing to defend. It would have been better to embrace the role of the victim than back down then.
I paused again before adding, “I bet you’ve had your fair share of laughs about it too, haven’t you? We were rivals in the academy, so I’m sure you must be enjoying watching me stumble in my love life.”
I couldn’t care less if there were elders present. I just wanted to say what needed to be said.
As expected, my words piqued the interest of both old men.

Victor turned to his granddaughter and asked, “Didn’t you get along with Miss Jones, Candy?
Candy laughed, giving herself an out. “Not at all. It’s just that there were limited spots for certain programs and competitions in our faculty, so there was naturally some rivalry between us.”
She turned to me, her expression faintly displeased. “Taylor was impressive, and I can admit I wasn’t as good as her.”
I followed her lead. “You’re being too modest. The truth is, only got ahead of you because you didn’t care about those things.”
Candy glanced at me and chuckled. “I’m glad you understand that.”
The atmosphere immediately grew awkward.
