We were in a foreign country, and Candy’s raised voice drew the attention of every foreigner around us.
Still, I ignored her and headed toward the elevator, Sean following closely behind with my luggage.
“Sean.” I hesitated, glancing at him. “Let’s keep this little incident between us and not tell Soren, okay?”
Sean nodded in understanding.
After a brief silence, I couldn’t shake off the worry that Candy had planted in my mind. “You’ve been with Soren for years. Has he ever faced any real danger?”
Candy’s irritation had struck a nerve, and I couldn’t shake the unease about Soren’s safety.
“No,” Sean replied calmly.
Seeing through my anxiety, he added quickly, “Miss Jones, there’s no need to worry. Mr. Kenway’s safety has never been compromised. Even if I’m not with him, there are always others looking out for him.

Once in my room, I sent Soren a text to let him know I’d arrived before freshening up and lying down in bed.
Despite my exhaustion, my insomnia kicked in now that I was in a foreign country.
I ended up waking after barely three hours of sleep, unable to fall back asleep, so I got out of bed.
I tidied up my dressing table and glanced at the time.
It was afternoon in Medhelanon, and considering the seven hour time difference, it was already evening back home.
Soren should be available.
A warm feeling washed over me at the thought of him, and I instinctively dialed his number.
He answered almost immediately.
“Why are you awake already?
Soren’s voice was soft and affectionate.
I sighed. “I got up early and can’t fall back to sleep…”
“Having trouble adjusting to Medhelanon?”
“A little.”
“Why don’t you turn on your camera, if you’re okay with that?” he suggested. “I’d like to see you.”
“Okay!”

HL… Are you home already?” I noticed he was alone and didn’t seem to be in his office, so I guessed, “You’re not at work?”
“Yeap, I’m in the two–bedroom next to my unit. I thought d get some work done after you woke up and got ready to talk.”

Soren held the phone casually, but his features were so perfectly defined that he looked handsome no matter the

I felt a pang of insecurity and lay back on my bed, trying to and a better angle, worried he might think I looked unattractive.
“I actually woke up a while ago. I would’ve called sooner I’d known you were waiting for me. I thought you were busy with work,” I said.

We exchanged lighthearted banter for a while, gazing into each other’s eyes. There were moments of silence, but we still smiled at each other, content in the quiet.
Despite our age, we both felt like teenagers in a puppy–love relationship at that moment.
Soren suddenly changed the subject. “By the way, did you lajow Candy is in Medhelanon as well?!!
“How did you know about that?” I asked in surprise.
“I heard it from Grandpa today. He said her grandfather mentioned Candy was taking the midnight flight over,” he replied.
